Any actor would sell their soul to the devil for a chance to work in a DC or Marvel movie. But for Emma Mackey and her Sex Education co-star, Asa Butterfield, the chance was lost despite them going hammer and tongs for the role. While Emma Mackey recently lost the much-awaited Lois Lane role, Asa Butterfield lost the role of the web-slinger, Spider-Man.
Losing out on roles might mean a missed opportunity, but sometimes it can also lead to better opportunities and have significant upside. And this is how it turned out for Asa Butterfield.
Asa Butterfield Lost His Spider-Man Role To Tom Holland
Emma Mackey‘s Sex Education co-star Asa Butterfield was actually a forerunner for MCU’s one of the most popular roles. But that was until Tom Holland came along and bagged the role. Disappointed, yes but not disheartened, this is how Butterfield felt. Talking about missing such a big opportunity, the Hugo star said in an interview with Collider,
“Every so often there’s a part and it’s a script you love, and you kind of put your heart and soul into it, and you don’t get it. And it is tough and it is sh*t, but I often find that something even better comes out of it at the end. And so in the case of Spider-Man, I did Sex Ed, because I wouldn’t have been able to do both of those at the same time.”
He further added that while everyone feels different for a character, at the end sticking to what you think is the best option. Butterfield also praised Tom Holland for his spectacular acting and the way he has carried the role through the subsequent movies, something he believes he would not have been able to do at all.
Asa Butterfield might have lost the opportunity to play Spider-Man, but he won our hearts with a compelling and exceptional performance in Sex Education.
Emma Mackey’s Heartbreak In Superman: Legacy
Emma Mackey was on the final list of potential actors who could have played Lois Lane in DC’s Superman reboot Superman: Legacy. While fans were hyped up and hoping to have Mackey as Lois Lane, she lost the opportunity to Rachel Brosnahan.
While the Sex Education star has not spoken up about the news yet but it certainly has been disappointing to miss out on such a wonderful opportunity. But as they say, lost opportunities lead to new beginnings, fans shouldn’t be too disappointed.
You can stream Sex Education on Netflix.
