Despite having only four movies, there was a lot of love for the character and the stories he gave life. Now that the fifth part is also out, the question of what would happen next rises. There was a spin-off series pitched rather early on and was supposed to be on Disney+. However, that idea was scrapped too. That does not mean that plans weren’t made for it.

James Mangold Wanted The Indiana Jones Spin-Off To Be A Prequel

The spin-off for the Indiana Jones franchise was one that many had been looking forward to. It was supposed to be a prequel series that was to focus on Marion Ravenwood’s father, Abner Ravenwood in his younger days. The character had been one who was highly talked about throughout the franchise and to explore his days as an adventurer would have been an interesting choice.

“But it had nothing to do with Indiana Jones.”

The idea was scrapped early on because Disney demanded Lucasfilm focus only on Star Wars and nothing outside of it. However, if the idea were to be carried on, James Mangold confirmed that Indiana Jones would not have been a part of it. He wanted to explore a path of the story that began way before Indiana Jones. He did state that it would be based in the same world and would also include some prominent people who worked on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Unfortunately, it will not be made anytime soon.

Indiana Jones’ Future

Harrison Ford’s run as Indiana Jones has concluded officially. It has been confirmed that the actor will not be reprising his role.  “It’s Harrison’s last entry. That’s how we look at the Indy franchise. I mean, truthfully, right now, if we were to do anything, it might be in series television down the road, but we’re not doing anything to replace Indiana Jones. This is it.”

She stated that although there is much less of a chance for the movies to continue, a series is more than possible. She also confirmed that in no way will Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones be replaced. So while it may not be the end of Indiana Jones’s world, it is the end of Indiana Jones as a character.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is now available to watch in theatres.
