It is not surprising that the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to be the highest-grossing movie franchise of all time with more than a decade’s worth of films and an incredible number of characters. Easter Eggs are now widely used in movies, ever since Marvel began producing their own films with Iron Man in 2008. For instance, MCU President, Kevin Feige once revealed the clever connection between Marvel and George Lucas’ Star Wars films.
It is difficult to list them all, and it is even harder to choose the best one because MCU films frequently contain so many Easter eggs. Nevertheless, some are simply more unique (or satisfying) than others.
Now, we all know that Phase Two of the MCU began in 2013 with the release of Iron Man 3. Additionally, it set off a trend that pervaded all of Phase Two films, one that Kevin Feige admitted was initially unintentional.
Kevin Feige Revealed How Marvel Was ‘Unintentionally’ Affected By Star Wars
You might not be aware of this unless you are a die-hard fan of the Star Wars series; someone has their hand or arm cut off in almost every single movie in the series. Well, you might be surprised to learn that Marvel Studios was greatly influenced by this fascinating fact.
And because of this, each film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Two has a scene in which a character has their arm or hand cut off.
This is unquestionably true, despite the fact that it might sound like a crazy fan theory. How do we know this? Because Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, confirmed this amusing fact in an interview at The Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s press conference in Los Angeles.
The “tribute” was not initially intended, the 50-year-old American film and television producer informed. But in the end, it was decided that each movie in Marvel’s Phase Two would include a small nod to George Lucas‘ illustrious Star Wars franchise.
He discussed how Marvel came up with the idea to subtly reference Star Wars.
“So is this a spoiler for Ant-Man… not really. I’m obsessed with Star Wars. Who’s not? I’m 40 years old. I’m in the movie business. I went to USC. So I’m obsessed with Star Wars – and it didn’t start out as intentional, but it became intentional, including that beat that you referenced. It sort of happens in every Star Wars movie, but I was sort of looking at it, ‘Okay, is Phase Two our Empire Strikes Back?’ Not really, but tonally things are a little different. Somebody gets their arm cut off in every Phase Two movie. Every single one.”
Who Is The Star Wars Addict?
It had previously been made known that Kevin Feige would be helming a Star Wars film, and he had even selected Michael Waldron, the man behind the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, to write the story. However, as per the reports in March 2023 Lucasfilm had indefinitely shelved the aforementioned movie.
Feige’s movie was never really going to happen at all, according to Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm.
Kennedy spoke about the Star Wars franchise’s future in an interview with IGN, particularly in light of the excitement surrounding the upcoming films.
“Kevin Feige’s project was something announced in the press, or I suppose fandom, but there was nothing – nothing ever got developed. We never discussed an idea. As everybody knows, Kevin’s a huge Star Wars fan, and if he did come up with something, I would be all ears, but that’s never really happened. So it’s not an abandoned project, it just didn’t happen.”
Feige might have been a good addition to the reputable franchise. At least, that is what Joe Russo, a longtime colleague, believed. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Russo discussed Feige’s Star Wars mania and disclosed that the director has a “true love” of the franchise’s films.
“Star Wars is Kevin’s first and true love. He’s a man who has a very, very large basement filled with enough Star Wars paraphernalia to fill a museum.”
Russo was also of the view that Feige would be a good fit for the franchise because of this obsession as he said:
“Whatever he does with it is going to be passionate, emotional, and unique.”
Given the upcoming MCU projects, it appears that Feige will have to postpone directing a Star Wars film for a while.
Anyway, you can watch all the MCU Phase 2 movies, which are available for streaming on Disney+.
