Andy Muschietti’s The Flash is currently one of the most highly-awaited DC films. After being announced almost a decade ago in 2014, the film starring Ezra Miller is finally inching closer to its premiere. Not to mention, the horde of fan-favorite characters that are coming to the film, including the likes of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batmen, Michael Shannon’s supervillain General Zod, and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, have obviously increased the excitement tenfold.
To add to that anticipation, it looks like fans might just get to see Tom Cavanagh’s Reverse Flash as well in the upcoming superhero venture.
Andy Muschietti’s Cryptic Message: Is Reverse Flash in The Flash (2023)?
The Argentine filmmaker recently shared a doodle of Reverse Flash, aka, Professor Zoom on his Instagram page captioned “Flashdoodle.”
The sketch of the supervillain with a diabolical smile in Andy Muschietti’s post has raised ample suspicion among the fandom regarding the appearance of the character in the 49-year-old director’s forthcoming DC film, The Flash. The news comes right after Tom Cavanagh‘s Eobard Thawne returns to the series finale of The Flash which constitutes the CW’s last Arrowverse show.

Cavanagh, 59, has been a consistent part of the Grant Gustin-led superhero series, portraying the evil, meta-human speedster, right from the very beginning of The Flash since 2014 up until 2021, after which the actor left the show. However, as the sci-fi series comes to an end with its ninth and last season, Cavanagh is set to reprise his role as the antagonist one last time.
While Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen will be going up against Dark Flash as the main villain in the film, the superhero will also be facing one of Superman’s greatest adversaries, General Zodd. The speculation pertaining to Reverse Flash’s appearance as a secret villain in the film currently remains unaccounted for.
A Quick Look Into Reverse Flash aka Professor Zoom
Reverse-Flash, as depicted in the comics, is the evil alter-ego of the brilliant scientist Eobard Thawne. Born in the 25th century, Professor Zoom is a nefarious criminal who happens to be the Flash’s arch-nemesis.
When Thawne stumbles upon a time capsule that contains Barry Allen’s superhero suit, he uses it to reverse-engineer the accident that led to the Flash acquiring his superhuman speed and powers in the first place. He later went on to architect his very own Speed Force known as the ‘Negative Speed Force’, thereby assuming the moniker of Professor Zoom or Reverse-Flash.

In the television show, the supervillain has been played by both Cavanagh and Matt Letscher, wherein the latter is shown to be the original face of Thawne, and the former, for the most part, portrays different versions of Dr. Harrison Wells. At present, the Canadian actor is slated to reprise his role as Reverse Flash in the season finale of The Flash.
Andy Muschietti’s The Flash hits cinemas on June 16, 2023.
