Over the past 26 years, actress Jennifer Garner has won many prestigious awards for her remarkable performances in many blockbuster hits. Today, she is a global superstar thanks to her blend of beauty, charisma, and exceptional acting skills. Without a doubt, the role of Sydney Bristow in the iconic TV series, Alias (2001-2006), made her a well-known name in the industry, but how did she bag the role?
Created by J. J. Abrams, Alias was a show specifically made for Garner because he liked her performance in his drama series, Felicity, which aired between 1998-2002. When it was announced that Garner would play the lead role, there were many concerns, however, with her iconic performance, the actress managed to shut down her haters.
Alias was written for Jennifer Garner
Filmmaker J. J. Abrams always believed that Jennifer Garner had potential. With persuasion from Abrams’ wife, he decided to write Alias specifically for Garner. He once recalled (via W Magazine),
“She has incredible charisma, a wonderful smile, she’s gorgeous without being phony-looking, and she has a great, smart sense of humor. My wife was always saying, ‘Oh, my God, she’s going to be a star. You better do a show for her.’ And when I came up with Alias, she was pretty much the only person I had in my head. Before we cast her, there were people who questioned: ‘Is she tough enough? Is she s*xy enough?’ Two minutes later she was on the cover of every magazine, and no one was saying those things anymore.”
Alias wasn’t the first time Garner worked with Abrams as she appeared as Hannah Bibb in 3 episodes of Felicity (1998-2002). Alias aired for five seasons between 2001-2006. Garner’s salary began at $40,000 per episode and rose to $150,000 per episode by the end of the series. The actress’ performance was remarkable, earning many awards and nominations.
Jennifer Garner started acting in the 1990s
In 1997, Garner moved to Los Angeles and bagged her first leading role in the television film Rose Hill and made her first feature film appearance in 1997’s Washington Square. She then played many roles in various TV shows and movies, including 2000’s Dude, Where’s My Car?
With Alias, Garner became a well-known name in Hollywood and was approached by Steven Spielberg for a role as a high-class call girl in Catch Me If You Can (2002). Since then, Garner has proved her haters wrong with her consistent performances in various movies, earning a reputation as a well-experienced Hollywood star.
