Filmmaker J. J. Abrams always believed that Jennifer Garner had potential. With persuasion from Abrams’ wife, he decided to write Alias specifically for Garner. He once recalled (via W Magazine),
“She has incredible charisma, a wonderful smile, she’s gorgeous without being phony-looking, and she has a great, smart sense of humor. My wife was always saying, ‘Oh, my God, she’s going to be a star. You better do a show for her.’ And when I came up with Alias, she was pretty much the only person I had in my head. Before we cast her, there were people who questioned: ‘Is she tough enough? Is she s*xy enough?’ Two minutes later she was on the cover of every magazine, and no one was saying those things anymore.”
Alias wasn’t the first time Garner worked with Abrams as she appeared as Hannah Bibb in 3 episodes of Felicity (1998-2002). Alias aired for five seasons between 2001-2006. Garner’s salary began at $40,000 per episode and rose to $150,000 per episode by the end of the series. The actress’ performance was remarkable, earning many awards and nominations.
