Avalanche Software, the developer behind Hogwarts Legacy, is working on a new project some believe might be Hogwarts Legacy 2. It would be no surprise if the developer is working on another Harry Potter franchise game, as Hogwarts Legacy had an incredible reception among critics and players alike. This information comes from a recent job listing by the developer at Warner Bros. Discovery, looking for a software engineer. The listing reads as follows:
“When we say, ‘the stuff dreams are made of,’ we’re not just referring to the world of wizards, dragons and superheroes, or even to the wonders of Planet Earth. Behind WBD’s vast portfolio of iconic content and beloved brands, are the storytellers bringing our characters to life, the creators bringing them to your living rooms and the dreamers creating what’s next. From brilliant creatives, to technology trailblazers, across the globe, WBD offers career defining opportunities, thoughtfully curated benefits, and the tools to explore and grow into your best selves.”
“Here you are supported, here you are celebrated, here you can thrive. Avalanche Software, a division of Warner Brothers Games Inc. seeks a Software Engineer to join our talented team. As a member of our studio’s engineering team, you will collaborate with designers, artists, and other engineers to develop immersive gameplay experiences with industry leading visuals. Relocation to Salt Lake City, Utah is required. We are looking for candidates with the ability to quickly learn new platforms and technologies. We use many different technologies for our products, and while we don’t expect you to know them all immediately, we look for candidates who can learn quickly and be proficient with them!”
Although the listing does not seem to indicate exactly what the software engineer would be working on specifically, the fact they are hiring is enough to indicate more AAA titles are probably in development. Hogwarts Legacy was the last game Avalanche Software has released in the past six years with, Cars 3: Driven to Win, being the predecessor title. It would certainly make sense now that Warner Bros. Games has seen success from the studio, that they would want more properties brought to life by the company.
Are We Sure the Next Title Avalanche Software Is Working On Is Hogwarts Legacy 2?
Although it would be much more exciting to report with complete knowledge that Avalanche Software is working on Hogwarts Legacy 2, there is not enough information at this time. It is very possible Warner Bros. Games wants to continue a relationship with the developer, but that does not necessarily mean they will stay in the Harry Pottery universe.
The next big titles for Warner Bros. Games are more superhero focused, with Rocksteady preparing to release Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and a Wonder Woman game being helmed by Monolith Productions. Given how the job description discusses “the world of wizards, dragons and superheroes” it’s not impossible the developer could be moving into a new franchise. It would also be a surprisingly fast tun-around since the game only released in February 2023 and is possibly still factoring total sales.
Hogwarts Legacy can currently be played on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and will be playable on Nintendo Switch in November of this year. Given the fact that the title has yet to release on the Switch, a Hogwarts Legacy 2 announcement could be something fans are waiting on for a long time.
