‘Imagine realizing everything you thought about him was completely wrong’: Salty Jordan Peterson Fans Blast Olivia Wilde for Claiming He Inspired ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Villain

Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling has its own set of problems already. The psychological thriller movie is fine on its own, but problems arose when Shia LaBeouf, who left the movie in its pre-production days, had a subtle fallout in public following director Olivia Wilde’s comment about LaBeouf’s dismissal.

That event was followed up by the main actress of the movie, Florence Pugh, not having acknowledged the impending release of the movie, with reports suggesting she was uncomfortable with Wilde’s off-screen romance with her co-actor Harry Styles on set, all while she was still with Jason Sudeikis. Now a new mob has spawned that has set its eyes on bringing Wilde down after her recent comments about a character in the movie.

Olivia Wilde’s Getting Stick For Basing A Bad Guy In The Movie Off Jordan Peterson

During a recent interview with Interview Magazine, Olivia Wilde shared the reason and inspiration behind Frank, the main antagonist in Don’t Worry Darling played by Chris Pine. The character’s personality is not the issue at hand here, but rather the person it has been based on, as Wilde says that Frank is based on Jordan Peterson. She said-

“We based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community.”

For the unversed, Jordan Peterson is a Canadian psychologist whose controversial views have ended up earning him a spot in the bad guy zone of the internet. To line out a few of his controversies- he’s critical of the C-16 Bill (which grants rights to gender expression/identity), he’s basically against identity politics, the audience he attracts is mainly right-wing conservative men, and so on.

You get my point, this man is someone that can be canceled on the Internet. Anyways, Wilde’s comments about Jordan Peterson being the main inspiration for one of the “terrifying” characters in her new thriller movie has gotten her some flak from Peterson fans, and they’re pretty salty about it-

This guy questions her inaccuracy in depicting the psychologist-

This fan finds Wilde’s comments embarrassing-

This fan plays the gender card-

Another thinks she’s just spouting hate to attract people to her movie-

This fan straight up called out Wilde’s involvement with known abuser Harvey Weinstein-

They’ve rallied quite an amount of hate for Wilde’s comments about Peterson, but she isn’t wrong either.

Why Wilde Removed a Scene From Don’t Worry Darling Trailer

Olivia Wilde‘s Don’t Worry Darling has already had a lot of controversies surrounding its release as well as the production of the film. Adding to that long list of dramatic incidents is a particularly steamy scene that had to be removed from its trailer.

During an interview with The Associated Press, Wilde expressed her disappointment in not being able to include steamy scenes in the trailer-

“There’s a lot that had to be taken out of the trailer. The MPAA came down hard on me and the trailer at the last second and I had to cut some shots, which I was upset about because I thought they it took it up another notch. But of course we still live in a really puritanical society. I do think the lack of eroticism in American film is kind of new.”

“Then when it comes to female pleasure, it’s something that we just don’t see very often unless you’re talking about queer cinema. You know, it’s interesting because in a lot of queer films, the female characters are allowed to have more pleasure. Audiences aren’t as puritanical as corporations think they are.”

“And yet people get upset. I mean, people are upset with me already over this. I think it’s a testament to the film. We want to be provocative. The idea is not to make you feel safe.”

I agree with Wilde on this one, directors should also have a 100% say in how trailers for their movies are made. The censoring of the said footage from the trailer that Wilde wanted to include is one of the many reasons why you should never judge a movie from its trailer.

Don’t Worry Darling is set for a theatrical release on September 23, 2022.
