Daniel Craig essayed the role of the celebrated British spy, James Bond. Starting from Casino Royale, Craig has received high praise for his approach to playing the superspy. While his feat as 007 has come to an end with No Time to Die, there is an actor who is more than eager to continue with the franchise.
Ralph Fiennes, who played the role of M after Judi Dench, is eager to reprise his role when the James Bond franchise is rebooted. Not only did he play M, but Fiennes was also approached to play the spy once.
Before Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes Was Offered The Role Of 007
Before Daniel Craig could become James Bond, the Harry Potter star Ralph Fiennes received the call to star as the celebrated spy. While there were many contenders, the then-42-year-old was thought to be the best. In an interview, Fiennes stated,
“Well, it was funny. Because actually a while back Barbara Broccoli talked to me once about possibly playing Bond, and that didn’t happen.”
While it didn’t work out at that time, he was happy to step up and play M. Not only was he elated but also labeled the offer as attractive.
“M, Judi Dench… dies, and you’re set up as the next M. And I thought, great! I also love Daniel’s Bond, and I just respected Sam’s intelligence, and the approach to it, and what he was doing with it. I thought… Skyfall was a great script, just great.”
And since then, Fiennes played the role of M in the subsequent movies till No Time to Die.
Unlike Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes Is Eager To Stay In The Franchise
Judi Dench‘s M was killed off in the movie Skyfall, and then Ralph Fiennes entered the franchise. The Harry Potter star’s M was full of authority and his portrayal was very well-received. His iconic interpretation of the character balanced M’s sternness and overbearing demeanor while at the same time maintaining the legacy of Dench’s portrayal.
Now that Daniel Craig has left the franchise, Fiennes wants to remain as M and star in the potential reboots.
“If anyone from Eon Films is listening, I’m very keen to continue training the new Bond. I love playing M, and I love being part of that franchise. But who knows? Things have to change.”
After Craig’s exit, even fans have remained hopeful to have the Harry Potter star reprise his role.
Daniel Craig’s James Bond movies are available to stream on Amazon Prime.
