As Ezra Miller’s multiverse movie The Flash, races to the movie theatres, people appear super curious about each and every cameo in the film. Constantly mistaking the golden age Flash Jay Garrick for Teddy Sears who played Zoom on CW’s The Flash series, fans have been bothering the actor with their tweets and questions. However, unfortunately, it’s not Sears who appeared in the DC movie cameo.
Finally addressing the social media debate surrounding his appearance in The Flash, Teddy Sears spoke with TVLine to clarify the confusion. The actor stated being absolutely sure of career opportunities. Although the cameo featured the black-and-white world speedster that looks quite a bit like Sears and even wears a strikingly similar costume, it’s not him.
Teddy Sears Addressed Fans’ Doubt About The Flash Cameo
Following the release of Ezra Miller’s The Flash, audiences have been typically thrilled by the unexpected cameos in the movie. Appreciating DC’s dive into multiverse story, fans are getting overwhelmed with each legendary cameo appearing on screen. After witnessing Michael Keaton and George Clooney’s Batman and even Nicolas Cage’s Superman, fans weren’t quite shocked when they noticed Teddy Sears as the golden age speedster.
But was it really Teddy Sears? Evidently, the doubt surrounding that particular cameo of Jay Garrick’s character left fans overly curious. The cameo sparked questions after Barry Allen’s multiversal exploration featured a black-and-white world speedster that appeared strikingly similar to Sears. The final touch of wearing a version of Jay Garrick’s costume that was worn by Sears in CW’s The Flash‘s second season made it even more convincing.
However, eventually, Teddy Sears addressed the doubt and clarified the confusion to TVLine. Reacting to a movie theater screenshot, shared by someone on Twitter, the actor stated, “I mean… that looks like my likeness”. Further getting into details, Sears mentioned, “People kept telling me that I was in the new Flash movie…” However, even to Sears’ surprise, the actor wasn’t actually in the movie.
Teddy Sears’ Clarified The Confusion About His DC Cameo
Irrespective of how desperately fans hoped for the Arrowverse actor to appear in DC’s The Flash and merge the two storylines, it wasn’t Teddy Sears who featured in a cameo. It’s hopefully a doppelganger who appears strikingly similar to Sears and was featured in the DC movie. Although Sears would have appreciated the role, it wasn’t him.
“I mean, I’m sleep-deprived with a newborn at home, so my memory is a little foggy. But I’m pretty sure I would have remembered shooting a major DC Studios film. Sadly, I’m not in this.” Teddy Sears confirmed.
Further confirming with sources at Warner Bros, TVLine gathered the information that the “generic Golden Age Flash representation played no actor of note”. Although it seems harsh to not find the beloved Arrowverse actor in DC’s The Flash, fans believe the representation was indeed AI-constructed imagery and therefore it looked shockingly similar to Sears.
Eventually, after the confusion was cleared by Teddy Sears and sources at Warner Bros studios, fans gathered why Sears’ cameo wouldn’t have made sense in The Flash movie. Considering the fact that his character was defeated by the end of The Flash season 2, Sears would have appeared as the corpse-like Black Flash in DCU. Thus, featuring his terrifying transformation by the Time Wraiths in which he is enslaved to the Time Force, would have been a difficult explanation for audiences.
