Comedian Ellen DeGeneres has a few movie titles to her name but the one she shared with Sharon Stone was pretty intense. The duo appeared in HBO’s romance drama If These Walls Could Talk 2 where an intimate love scene between the two was a necessary part of the film.
Stone is not unfamiliar with filming intense romantic scenes, but for DeGeneres, it was quite a new territory to jump straight in. In fact, the TV show host was a little uncomfortable doing the love scene with the Casino star.
Ellen DeGeneres Refused To Get N*ked With Sharon Stone in If These Walls Could Talk 2
HBO’s television movie If These Walls Could Talk 2 had some pretty intense romantic scenes involving three different LGBT couples. Among them, Ellen DeGeneres as Kal and Sharon Stone as Fran were supposed to have an intimate romantic relationship. However, DeGeneres was very uncomfortable doing the scene with Stone, who earlier appeared in several steamy movies including the Basic Instinct franchise and Silver. DeGeneres had to fight over passing on the scene. “It’s a different side of me,” DeGeneres once told The New York Times.
“My TV character was always a self-deprecating, very nervous, very goofy kind of person, a grown-up but kind of like a child. I was like Peter Pan for a while. I’m a little more grown-up in this. There’s a sexuality about me that people haven’t seen.”
Anne Heche, who directed the part of DeGeneres and Stone, reportedly dated the TV star and DeGeneres had to be involved in an argument with the late actor/director.
“I fought Anne for months, saying I wouldn’t do the love scene. She was like, ‘It’s Sharon Stone.’ I said: ‘I won’t do the scene. I’m not getting n*ked. I’m not going to kiss somebody else,’” DeGeneres said.
However, her former partner and director, Heche was all up for transforming her vision onto screen. “What other lesbian on the planet would say, ‘I won’t do a love scene with Sharon Stone’?” Heche said. But it was not comforting enough for DeGeneres. She said,
“To me, it’s a very private thing that I don’t think you show the world, and yet it was important to show that part of the relationship.”
However, DeGeneres’s reluctance towards exposing herself before the camera was not similar to her co-star Stone.
Sharon Stone Was Quite Comfortable Doing the Hot Scene With Ellen DeGeneres
Stone’s steamy roles in movies are pretty delicate and widely popular. So, she was all in to appear in the film with DeGeneres. After reading the script, the Total Recall star was quite excited about the role.
“And when I read it and it was a romantic comedy that was very well done, and I knew that I could co-star opposite someone who was really facile with comedy and that I would be able to learn from Ellen, I thought this is terrific. So I decided to do it,” Stone said.
DeGeneres eventually agreed to what the director intended. For Stone, she had no issues with it rather she was more comfortable with DeGeneres than most male co-stars.
“I have to say that I’m not gay. But I was more compatible in my love scene with Ellen than I have been in some other love scenes….. that I’ve had to do with men,” Stone said.
Further, the Basic Instinct star said that she is familiar with DeGeneres and shares a friendship which made involvement with the character in the scene easier.
“Because some people you don’t have as much of a comfort. We have a comfort, a friendship that made it easier for us to be,” Stone added.
The television movie aired in 2000 was a hit and received several accolades. DeGeneres’ eventual nod to the specific scene completed the essence of the movie. Perhaps, the movie would not be as effective without the scene as it is now.
