Fans have always found Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s relationship to be a bit mysterious. The defiantly unconventional couple, who have been married for more than 20 years now, earlier admitted that Pinkett Smith had an affair with August Alsina while they were taking a “break” from their marriage.
Despite having to address rumors over the course of their decades together, the couple appears to have discovered the secret to maintaining the spark.
The Red Table Talk co-host and Will Smith first became acquainted when she attended an audition for the role of his girlfriend on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Nia Long eventually won the role after Pinkett Smith was passed over, but they later started dating.
Smith and Pinkett got married in December 1997. Prior to marrying the Queen Cleopatra actress, in May 1992, the Bad Boys for Life actor married Sheree Zampino.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith usually do not talk much about their mysterious relationship with each other. But when Song Cry artist August Alsina previously admitted that he and the Set It Off actress dated while she was still Smith’s wife, they felt compelled to share more details.
The drama began when Alsina gave an interview to The Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee in which he discussed his relationship with Pinkett Smith in detail.
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”
He even insisted that he and Smith had discussed dating the Academy Award-winning actor’s wife. Alsina claimed:
“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership … he gave me his blessing.”
Following his interview, Pinkett Smith made the decision to discuss the incident with her husband in an open forum on Red Table Talk.
In the episode, she talked about how she first got involved in Alsina’s life to help him and how, at one point, her whole family was close to him. But eventually, their interaction turned romantic.
“I had to learn to break [my codependency] in this cycle, the idea of needing to fix and being drawn to people that need help…whether it’s your health, or whether it’s your addictions – there’s something about that childhood trauma that feels as though it can be fixed through fixing people versus fixing me.”
Will Smith Discussed His Popular Crying Meme
The internet-famous Red Table Talk episode starring Jada Pinkett Smith also gave rise to the ‘Will Smith crying’ meme in addition to the word ‘entanglement’. During the episode, the married couple talked about rumors regarding the actress’ previous relationship with August Alsina, and Smith momentarily looked like he cried.
Thus, several fans expressed their sympathy for the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor and turned a screenshot from the episode into a meme after it quickly went viral. The couple has since addressed the viral image and clarified that Smith was not in fact crying.
The couple detailed the situation in a YouTube video, as the father of three said:
“I’m not sad a lot. I think because I drink so much coffee I get dehydrated and it makes my eyes water. People think I’m crying all the time and I’m not crying.”
His wife then interjected: “Such a shame.”
Smith went on to explain the cause of his crimson eyes during the Red Table Talk interview.
“It was midnight. We were shooting at midnight because we were trying to rush and go to the airport in the morning.”
In the end, the Girl Trip actress claimed that although she tried to make a serious video, it came across as being overly serious.
Well, on the professional front, Smith was last seen in the 2022 film, Emancipation, which earned mixed reviews from critics.
Emancipation is available to stream on Apple TV+
