Although numerous villains have been introduced throughout the entire existence of the anime industry, one antagonist who is often claimed to be the best among all of them is Aizen Sōsuke, who is one of the most loved and fan-favorite villains ever made. Since the villains are always on the bad side, authors use the common trope of including a sad backstory to make them more likable. However, Tite Kubo, the author of Bleach has always had a clear instance of this and has mentioned that he will never reveal Aizen’s backstory to the readers.
Aizen continues to be a well-received character even after so many years and just a glimpse of him during Thousand Year Blood War is enough to get the fans excited and eager for his return. Tite Kubo, Bleach’s creator has stated that he wishes to not reveal the past venture of Aizen Sōsuke to the readers ever.
Why does Tite Kubo refuse to reveal Aizen Sōsuke Past
Even though a decade has passed since Aizen Sōsuke was introduced to the viewers, the mystery of his origins is still the talk of the town, and fans often wonder what led to him becoming what he is today. But unfortunately, it will never be disclosed.
In an interview with Bleach author Tite Kubo, he refused to fall into the age-old cliche trope of making viewers sympathize with the villain with a sob story.
One important thing to note here is that this is a translated version of the interview and the original wording might be a little different.
Authors usually prefer to include some scenes in the story to make an emotional attachment of the characters to the viewers and one prime example is Uchiha Madara who is also claimed to be one of the best villains ever introduced.
Although it is important to have some context on the characters’ past, rarely there appears a character like Aizen, who become fan favorites without even having any story to relate to.
Why did Tite Kubo take a different approach towards Aizen Sōsuke?
According to Tite Kubo, fans need something to sympathize with the villains to make the villains somewhat likable to a group audience. But he thinks if there is a sense of mystery involved about the characters, that intrigues the fans even more.
His decision to take a unique approach ended up proving successful as he managed to create one of the best characters to ever exist.
The popularity of Aizen Sōsuke far surpasses the popularity of characters such as Urahara Kisuke, Shihoin Yoruichi, and even the protagonist of the story Ichigo Kurosaki.
Fans are eagerly waiting for the return of their beloved character Aizen, and want to see him back in action in the Thousand Year Blood War series.
