Michael Douglas is one actor who is greatly known for the various movies he has done and all the roles he has brought to life because of his incredible talent. While he has a lot of films that have surpassed the box office, none have shone as brightly as Basic Instinct. The movie brought about both a cult fandom and controversies alongside it.
The actor has done a fair share of scenes that have been engraved in the fans’ minds and when it comes to his reputation, he sees himself as someone who is an expert in intimate scenes. Although that is his stance, Sharon Stone thought otherwise, having a completely different opinion than him on intimate sequences.
Michael Douglas Sees Himself As A S*x Expert
Michael Douglas is most iconically known for his work in Basic Instinct. The movie had a great number of intimate scenes which the actor compared to action sequences. He has done so many s*x scenes that the actor sees himself as an expert in that department. He broke down the key ways to get these sequences done because he has been doing them even before intimacy coordinators were a thing.
“You tell them beforehand when you’re starting: ‘Alright, I’m going to put my hand here. Is that alright? Okay, you put your hand here and then we’re going to go kiss, kiss, and then we are going to go … we’re going to go down.'”
He added as to how practice and rehearsal are just as important in intimate scenes as it is for action sequences. The coordination between the actors and the lack of surprises is important in ensuring that nothing makes either actor uncomfortable. He joked about how Basic Instinct helped him in becoming the expert in scenes that required intimacy.
Sharon Stone Was Not Comfortable With Intimate Scenes With Michael Douglas
Before Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas did Basic Instinct together, they had met each other only a handful of times. She focused on how despite their on-screen chemistry, their off-screen dynamic wasn’t as vibrant. They were seemingly never comfortable around each other and there was a certain tension she could never really pinpoint.
“I really felt that he and I could have a certain strange, dynamic energy together. I was never comfortable around him, and I don’t think he was comfortable around me.”
That did not stop her from giving her best performance though. She used this dynamic to manifest a relationship between both her and Douglas’s characters. She did also claim that it was a conscious decision to not get close to her co-star in order to maintain an element of mystery and mesmerization, something she wanted to portray with her character.
