Ryan Reynolds is one of the most interesting celebrities in Hollywood, and rightly so. The real-life version of his renowned Marvel character Deadpool, the 46-year-old star never ceases to amuse his audience: whether it be with his compelling acting skills on-screen, or his sarcastically witty sense of humor off-screen. And sharing his embarrassing stories holds a fair share in that as well.
This also includes the time when the Green Lantern star thought it was the end of his career after hitting his legendary co-star Denzel Washington while shooting their movie together, Safe House.
The Time When Ryan Reynolds Hit Denzel Washington
Ryan Reynolds is one of the funniest and most real celebrities in the entertainment industry, agreed, but he is also one of the most dramatic guys to ever exist (sarcastically, of course). This is a given, considering how he thought he was about to lose not only his career but his life as well after hitting his co-star Denzel Washington in the face.
Appearing on David Letterman’s Netflix show My Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, he shared how it all happened on the second day of shooting Safe House when they had to film an ‘in an out-of-control car’ scene where his character was supposed to ‘smash’ Washington’s character in the face.
Mentioning how they weren’t using any stunt drivers for that scene considering their situation (they were charging through the lanes of Cape Town, South Africa), he told Letterman,
“There’s a scene in the movie … where he crawls through the trunk in the back and he grabs me and chokes me. We were really driving a car at top speed. He and I are in this out-of-control car, and the corner of my head — I felt it hit his eye so hard I was sure that it split wide open.”
This accidental attack on the Oscar winner’s face put Reynolds in a panic attack mode.
“I’m thinking I’m going to be sent home via crematorium — like, it’s over right now, this is it, not only my career but my actual pulse will cease,” he said.
But that wasn’t how it ended – for Ryan Reynolds had more embarrassment heading his way.
That Wasn’t The End Of Ryan Reynolds’ Humiliation
While Ryan Reynolds was panicking about his life and career after this incident, Denzel Washington, on the other hand, was rather gracious about the whole situation.
“He was fine. He was like, ‘Hey, accidents happen. Let’s do it again. We’ll shoot it from the other side so we can keep shooting so we don’t see this,'” Reynolds recalled Washington saying.
Thinking that everything was okay and neither his life nor his career was in a potential crisis, the Free Guy star then proceeded to shoot the scene again. But little did he know that that wasn’t the end of his humiliation. Continuing, he told David Letterman,
“We did it again. [This time] I got the other eye, Dave. For a minute he looked like a Christmas ornament.” He added, “Yeah, I wanted to die.”
Regardless, perhaps this time too the Academy Award winner let it go once again, considering how Ryan Reynolds is still shooting for films and leading a thriving career!
