Known for starring alongside Eminem in 8 Mile, Brittany Murphy’s last on-screen presence came in the movie Something Wicked, a development that caught fans off guard. By that juncture, her professional trajectory was heading in a different path. As per her surviving spouse, a theory emerged suggesting a Hollywood conspiracy had hindered Murphy’s access to significant roles.
While Murphy was notably candid about her experience working with Eminem on 8 Mile, there was a specific aspect behind the scenes that she chose to avoid. She held concerns that providing an incorrect response to a particular question might render her fodder for future diss lyrics in an Eminem song. Recognizing the potential implications, she judiciously opted to refrain from addressing that particular inquiry.
Brittany Murphy Was Scared Eminem Would Diss Her
There existed a specific query that Murphy astutely chose not to address. As curiosity swirled around Eminem’s demeanor during the film’s backstage moments, the media sought insights into whether he experienced any apprehension behind the lens, considering it marked his inaugural foray into acting within such an environment.
Murphy, exercising caution, opted against divulging additional details, fueled by the concern that a misguided response could potentially provide fodder for Eminem to craft a diss track. “You would have to ask him,” she joked. “I don’t want to pop up in some song or something. I’m being careful.“
While she didn’t become the subject of a diss track, Eminem did impart a valuable lesson about correctly directing blame.
“She had no idea how to throw up a middle finger cause she never flipped anyone off in her entire life until she did 8 Mile with Marshall,” co-star Anthony Mackie revealed. “Eminem and her sit down and [he] was teaching her how to do it.”
A poignant instance shared between the pair, yet akin to everyone else, Eminem was left in disbelief by the unexpected loss of his fellow co-star.
Eminem Had A Great Rapport With Brittany Murphy
In an interview with MTV, Eminem openly acknowledged the close bond he shared with Brittany Murphy off-camera. Similar to the general sentiment, he was taken aback by her untimely departure. He also conceded that behind the scenes, Hollywood was grappling with a significant issue of drug overdose during that period.
“It was crazy. It’s crazy, because at one point, we were very close, and she was a really good person. It’s crazy when you see things not just with her but just all these things that are happening in Hollywood with people in music, with people in acting. … Famous people. Famous people are overdosing at alarming rates and — that almost sounded like a commercial. Wow.”
Carrying forth, the rapper extended his thoughts, attributing a portion of the responsibility to doctors and their susceptibility to influence. Murphy’s passing served as a wake-up call for Eminem, who confronted his own struggles with addiction and encounters with overdoses. Presently, Eminem has significantly transformed his lifestyle compared to his earlier years.
