Jumper (2008) is a cool science fiction action flick based on Steven Gould’s 1992 novel of the same name. No doubt it’s a great movie and deserved a sequel too.

Although the movie received mostly negative reviews, it did fairly well at the box office. This was enough reason for Doug Liman and the production company to consider a sequel. But time passed by —  and Jumper 2 is just a dream that never quite took off.

Conversely, there’s some buzz in the air these days about its sequel, but Doug Liman, the director, hasn’t given it the official green light yet. But maybe it’s in the works?

Will there be a Sequel to Jumper 2?

Talk of sequels often keeps hope alive, and actors tend to leave the door open for potential projects. As Collider said, when you ask an actor, “What are your thoughts on a sequel to X?”

Their response is almost like, “I haven’t heard anything, but I’d be open to it if there’s a good story.” Maybe the lead actor’s (Hayden Christensen) condition would be the same too? Anyway.

It’s interesting to note that the Jumper novel series has three sequels, namely Reflex (2004), Impulse (2013), and Exo (2014). There is a short story called Shade (2008), which takes place after the events of Reflex. Given the potential storylines, it seems there was material for potential sequels too. But unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

According to Screenrant, in 2016, a Jumper sequel was announced, but as an ongoing series on YouTube’s video-sharing website. The series Impulse is more like a spinoff than a sequel, but it brings back the idea of “jumpers.”

So, overall, no decision has been made about when the sequel will be released. Clearly, it will take a while for it to appear on the screen.

In 2010, Hayden Christensen said that Jumper 2 was in the works. However, as of now, there hasn’t been any official confirmation on the sequel’s status. Speaking to MTV, Christensen said:

We’re talking about it right now actually.”

He also hinted about the story and said that it will be:

”somewhere a little darker. I think there’s a lot you can do with it. It was sort of set up in a way it’s gonna be mother hunting son and possibly even maybe sister hunting brother. We’re talking about it, trying to figure it out.”

In Christensen’s statement, there wasn’t the name of Jamie Bell (who portrayed Griffin — a more experienced jumper who serves as a mentor to Christensen’s character throughout the film). It also wasn’t clear whether Samuel L. Jackson would also reprise his role in the untitled sequel.

You can rent Jumper (2008) on Apple TV.
