Whoopi Goldberg claims that American Idol caused the downfall of the society
The latest episode of ABC’s talk show, The View, aired last week. During the episode, host Whoopi Goldberg explained what caused the downfall of the society. She said,
“We as a society love to watch stuff to judge folks. I’ve always thought that the beginning of the downfall of society was with — what’s the name of that show?” she asked one of the producers off-screen. “ABC’s American Idol?”
American Idol also comes under the same network. When Goldberg realized it, she explained that the show wasn’t always a part of ABC.
People on social media reacted to her statement
Whoopi Golderg’s statements always attract media attention for all the wrong reasons. However, this time, it’s safe to say that many people agree with her.
American Idol aired on Fox from June 11, 2002, to April 7, 2016. Then after a short break, it was revived by ABC on March 11, 2018.
Whoopi Goldberg says that the show went “out of control“
Further in the episode, Goldberg explained her point saying that things went out of control because of the judging process on the show,
“Once we gave people the ability to judge other people, I think we ran amok with it, and it’s gone out of control… They invited the public to decide who that person was. Once we did that, it began us in a cycle.”
Sometimes, Goldberg doesn’t realize what she is saying. In February 2022, she was suspended by ABC for two weeks after she claimed that the Holocaust involved “two groups of white people” and that the Nazi genocide of the Jews was “not about race.” She was criticized by the internet for her insensitive remarks and she later apologized for it.
