Known for his chiseled muscles, rugged charm, and smoldering gaze, Channing Tatum, who starred alongside Sandra Bullock in The Lost City, has long been the epitome of male beauty. He was able to quickly establish himself as one of the most in-demand A-list actors in America as a result. Thus, it makes sense that the actor, whose life story served as the basis for his Magic Mike films, would be aware of his attractiveness.
Men all over the world had a new fitness inspiration when Magic Mike was released in theaters. Channing Tatum, who had a ripped body and big biceps, became an icon and motivated countless people to start a fitness regimen in an effort to achieve a physique similar to his.
But the actor, who made his breakthrough in the dance film, Step Up in 2006, has previously spoken about the detrimental effects it had on his life as he prepared for the role of a male stripper in Steven Soderbergh’s film.
Channing Tatum Revealed His Magic Mike Shape ‘Is Not Natural’
Channing Tatum has talked openly about how his recognizable Magic Mike physique actually came to be. In his previous interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Lost City actor admitted that the physical demands of playing the fictional male stripper nearly prevented him from returning for Magic Mike 3.
As he and Kelly Clarkson were discussing, a large screen behind him was showing a picture of Tatum bare-chested and his character in Magic Mike XXL. The actor, 43, said of the picture:
“That might be the reason why I didn’t want to do a third one, because I have to look like that.”
After that, Tatum continued to discuss important concepts related to male body image and what goes into creating the wildly exaggerated male forms we see in movies like the Magic Mike series.
“It’s hard to look like that. Even if you do work out, to be that kind of in shape is not natural. That’s not even healthy. You have to starve yourself. I don’t think when you’re that lean, it’s actually healthy.”
He also mentioned how acting often requires him to strip off his clothes, which has helped him maintain a good physique:
“As someone who works out for a job, I promise you I would not look like this unless I had to be naked in most of my movies mostly. At some point I have to get better at acting so I don’t have to be n*ked in all of them.”
Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City Co-Star Unveiled His Stunning Secret
Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City co-star, Channing Tatum finds it very challenging to put in the necessary amount of training, diet rigor, and consistency, even when it is your job to get in shape for a role. This prompted him to say that he had no idea how people with both family and work obligations managed to stay in shape. To quote him:
“I don’t know how people who work a 9 to 5 actually stay in shape because it’s my full-time job, and I can barely do it.”
Tatum was dieting “completely right”, i.e., only allowing himself dull, tasteless meals, and exercising twice a day to get in shape. Since avoiding sodium was a key component of the Magic Mike look, he claimed that salt was what he missed the most:
“Just everything tastes like, I don’t know, tastes like water. It’s nothing.”
Additionally, he talked about the all-too-familiar experience of working out for weeks or even months to get lean:
“Why – when it takes like, I don’t know, two months to get really lean – in three days, you can lose it? It’s gone. I was like, ‘What happened?’”
We last saw him in the third and final installment in the Magic Mike trilogy, Magic Mike’s Last Dance. The 2023 film grossed $57 million worldwide and received mixed reviews from critics.
