Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s lifelong friendship, which began literally from birth, truly mesmerizes people. Their bond has endured the test of time and is now permanently etched in the history of cinema through their numerous ventures together, most notably, Good Will Hunting. So, why not make this relationship even more permanent with a tattoo?
While promoting the much-awaited Christopher Nolan magnum opus, in an interview with Capital FM, the actor Matt Damon contemplated the idea of having his best friend for life, Ben Affleck’s name tattooed on his skin along with his wife and kids. And people weren’t surprised even the least bit, rather many would agree it’s high time they commemorate their friendship this way.
Matt Damon Wants To Get Ben Affleck’s Name Inked On His Body
The affinity the both actors, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have for each other cannot be measured with any tool. From being high school besties to dominating Hollywood together the duo has come a long way. It is now safe to say, Damon and Affleck are more than just friends, they are family. Thus, while talking to Capital FM about various aspects of his latest film, which needs no introduction, the actor pondered on various other topics, one among which was getting a Ben Affleck tattoo.
During a candid revelation, the actor recounted the tale of getting his first tattoo at the age of 42, accompanied by his wife, inked by none other than the tattoo artists who inked Heath Ledger himself. Matt Damon disclosed that the decision to immortalize the names of his wife and children in ink occurred spontaneously, creating a heartfelt and enduring tribute to his beloved family. To which the interviewer asked, the most requested fan question ever, which was,
“When are you going to get the Ben tattoo?”
After a good laugh, Damon playfully responded, wondering if they were inquiring about the notorious giant Phoenix tattoo, which has its own story. However, he was quickly redirected to getting just Affleck’s name inked, to which he responded,
“I mean he’s you know my best friend for my entire life, I’d get his tattoo on my arm, I wouldn’t care”
The duo is indeed very close, and wouldn’t mind getting a tattoo of each other’s name like teenage lovers. Truth be told, their enduring friendship has outlasted many high-profile love bonds, and thus a tattoo will be a perfect funny yet heart-warming little gesture to prove their love for one another.
Matt Damon Was the Only Supporter of Ben Affleck’s Phoenix Tattoo
When Affleck’s Phoenix tattoo made its public debut in 2015, not a single person showed kindness towards it. Twitter users, without a doubt, expressed their disapproval, and even both Jennifers joined the hate train. The only one who offered unwavering support was Matt Damon. Garner, his ex-wife, once told Vanity Fair,
“You know what we would say in my hometown about that? ‘Bless his heart.’ A phoenix rising from the ashes. Am I the ashes in this scenario? I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes.”
While in a separate interview, Lopez, his current wife, but then his ex-fiance, said,
“It’s awful! What are you doing? It has too many colors. His tattoos always had too many colors. They shouldn’t be so colorful. They should be cooler.”
In the face of widespread criticism and hatred towards Affleck’s life choices, Damon shielded him like a true friend, offering his unwavering support on The Daily Show, by saying,
“It’s not one man’s job to tell another man what he can do to his back. I support him in all of his ‘artistic expression.’–I love you just the way you are, even now, with your large back mural.”
Thus it is now proven that no matter how humongous or gross-looking Affleck’s life choices may be, Damon will forever remain his number-one cheerleader.
