Millions of devoted fans, wealth, and fame. Celebrities seem to have an easy life, don’t they? Actually, not always. Many famous people have overcome difficulties in their lives, including Starsky & Hutch actor Vince Vaughn, who has been dealing with two disabilities that most fans were not even aware of.
Early on, he recognized his talent for comedy and started honing it on small stages before eventually making it to Hollywood. The actor, who began acting in the late 1980s, went on to be cast alongside Ben Stiller in the successful movies Starsky & Hutch and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
However, reaching such a milestone wasn’t that easy. Few people are aware that Vaughn was diagnosed with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia as a young child.
Vince Vaughn’s Remarkable Journey After Overcoming The Odds
Success stories in Hollywood are often filled with tales of achievement, challenges, and determination. Vince Vaughn’s success story stands out from the rest because it demonstrates how a talented actor can achieve great success while also overcoming two disabilities.
Vaughn was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and was given anti-hyperactivity medications. But the Swingers actor did not want to be treated any differently because of his illness. Yet he claimed that it gave him motivation to advance in his career.
He earlier said (via Contact Music):
“When I was in school, I wasn’t a very good student – I had a form of dyslexia and short attention span. But when you have these setbacks, you develop a really good work ethic, because you have to try harder.”
There have been rumors that Vaughn stopped acting in romantic comedies because of his wife (Kyla Weber). However, he mentioned in 2015 that a change in management may have had an impact on his work. He confessed to GQ at the time:
“I’d just made Fred Claus and it was looking sour. I left to go with a different agency [Creative Artists] as there was a ton of bad blood between my manager and my agent and they hadn’t spoken to each other for something like six months.”
He further added:
“I’d had enough. I liked the new guys, they had some decent ideas but I didn’t have the same sort of rapport as I’d had with my previous team. This tweak can effect your output, especially if you’re not communicating brilliantly.”
How Vince Vaughn Overcame His Comfort Zone?
Vince Vaughn was introduced to musical theater at a young age, and in 1987 he decided to pursue a career in acting. He was chosen to appear in a Chevrolet television commercial in 1988, shortly after graduating. But it was not until 1996 that he became a movie star after he and his friend Jon Favreau starred in Swingers.
Widespread acclaim for the film helped to make Vaughn famous and thrust him into the public eye. His subsequent successes in both comedies and dramas can be attributed to this pivotal moment. In 2017, he stated to Esquire:
“That was the moment I no longer felt like an unknown actor. [Swingers] makes you excited to date and to meet someone. Even though the technology and the language has changed, it still shows what it’s like to be vulnerable with women, and it feels honest.”
In reference to how his roles were perceived by others, he said:
“People feel like there’s a connection and a friendship there, so they go in right away. People are friendly for the most part, and I get a kick out of it.”
Thus, he has inspired people with disabilities and served as a beacon of hope for people who are pursuing their dreams. With roles in Wedding Crashers, Old School, The Break-Up, and Hacksaw Ridge, Vaughn has won over fans all over the world.
