The realization of his error dawned upon him when Nolan cast Christian Bale, who would go on to become the eventual Batman, in the sequel to Batman Begins, titled The Prestige.

Subsequently, Josh Hartnett disclosed that the role of Jack Twist was initially intended for Joaquin Phoenix, who also withdrew from the project. He expressed his major regret in not having the opportunity to share a kiss with Phoenix, underscoring his eagerness to collaborate with the actor.
