The Mission Impossible franchise starring Tom Cruise is arguably one of the most popular film series in Hollywood. Over 7 installments and a part two of the finale to go, the films have gained cult status for their superbly choreographed action scenes and Tom Cruise’s undeniable energy and commitment to perform his own stunts.
Over the years, many prominent actors have entered the franchise to play key roles in developing the narrative. In Mission: Impossible- Fallout, the 6th film in the series, Superman actor Henry Cavill was roped to share screen space with Tom Cruise. With the DC star’s penchant for action, it was natural that he would be given sequences to showcase his skills. One particular iconic fight segment with Tom Cruise in a bathroom pushed Henry Cavill and his body to the limit.
Henry Cavill Almost Gave Up During The Filming Of Mission Impossible 6
In the 6th film of the Mission Impossible franchise, British star Henry Cavill joined Tom Cruise in his quest to stop a dangerous group of international terrorists. The Justice League actor impressed critics and audiences with his charismatic presence and his flair for action along with keeping up with Tom Cruise every step of the way. Among the many thrilling scenes that Cavill was a part of, one particular action sequence featuring him and Cruise fighting an assassin in the bathroom, became one of the most talked about scenes.
While the scene ran for only two minutes in the film, it involved complicated stunt coordination and complex choreography that required both actors to put in 3 to 4 weeks of work which was the amount of time the filming of the scene took. Henry Cavill recalled this as being one of the most difficult experiences of his life and one that took a huge toll on his body. The celebrity also praised the stamina and endurance of stuntman Liang Yang who was in the scene as the antagonist with both actors.
“While I was shattered after the work we did together, he seemed unfazed and remained smiling … a true champion in ability and especially character.”
Despite feeling that the scene felt uncomfortably long and arduous for both Tom Cruise and him, Henry Cavill confessed that the physical pain was worth it after seeing how well it turned out on screen.
Henry Cavill To Channel His Inner James Bond With Argylle
After The Kingsman movie series, director Matthew Vaughn is tackling the gentleman spy concept once again with Argylle which will feature Henry Cavill as the world’s greatest secret agent. Apart from Cavill, the filmmaker has roped in one of the biggest star-studded casts in recent times including Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, and Dua Lipa with the latter making her acting debut in the movie. Speaking of casting Henry Cavill in the titular role while cheekily referring to the James Bond franchise, Vaughn said,
“I needed someone who was born to play Bond — which Henry is — and then nick him before Bond did. He plays a larger-than-life action hero with a wink”
Argylle is set to hit theaters on February 2, 2024, before being streamed by Apple TV+ at an unspecified later date. The teaser image that dropped in 2022 featured Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa in a close embrace.
