Meryl Streep Hated Playing The Character

Meryl Streep’s extensive career has showcased her versatility in portraying various characters. However, following her deep dive into method acting for her role as Miranda Priestly in 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada, she candidly revealed her departure from the technique. During filming, she fully immersed herself in the role of the demanding boss, staying in character throughout. Nonetheless, she later shared her challenging experience on set, acknowledging the discomfort she endured during the production.

“It was horrible! I was [miserable] in my trailer. I could hear them all rocking and laughing. I was so depressed! I said, ‘Well, it’s the price you pay for being boss!'” Streep told Entertainment Weekly in 2021. “That’s the last time I ever attempted a method thing!”

The atmosphere on set primarily emanated from Streep’s commitment to portraying Miranda Priestly’s cold treatment of Andy. Hathaway disclosed that Streep’s unwavering dedication to remaining in character was so intense that it took several months for the genuine Meryl Streep to reemerge during the filming process.
