She was cast opposite 21-year-old Andrew Barth Feldman in a plot that puts Lawrence’s character trying to court Feldman’s character on behalf of his parents’ request. Lawrence initially had some concerns regarding her co-actor before the shooting began.
Jennifer Lawrence Was Worried That Her 21-Year-Old Co-Star Would Annoy Her
Jennifer Lawrence was cast in the R-rated comedy No Hard Feelings opposite Andrew Barth Feldman. Feldman is comparatively younger than Lawrence at 21. while she’s 33. Therefore, Lawrence was initially worried that she would have to deal with an inexperienced and childish co-star. When asked about how she felt about Feldman, she told People,
“Genuine, bubbly, and most importantly not annoying. I was very worried that my young co-star was gonna annoy me all day everyday. And immediately I shushed out and I was like, okay this is not an annoying person”
Feldman also complimented Lawrence’s generosity while expressing his gratitude for making it normal for him on the set. He also praised her for making him comfortable and easy during some of the tricky scenes in the film.
No Hard Feelings Does Not Condone The Idea of S*xual Grooming
When the first trailer for Jennifer Lawrence’s No Hard Feelings came out, many people criticized the premise of a 30-year-old woman trying to seduce a 19-year-old teenager. The film was criticized for condoning s*xual grooming. Talking about this controversy and the misinterpretation that people had made about the film, Andrew Barth Feldman told The Independent,
“I think we all had a sense that this is a controversial premise. But the film never condones the things that Jennifer’s character does or that my character’s parents do. This is a movie about flawed people and it’s a cringe comedy. You’re meant to cringe! You’re meant to sit with those uncomfortable feelings.”
Feldman’s comments become evident when one watches the film and realizes that the film is a heartwarming tale of friendship disguised as a s*x comedy. The film also satirizes helicopter parenting and the idea that men have to be outgoing and appealing to look cool and relevant in today’s society.
