Steve Carell and John Krasinski starred in the iconic roles of Michael Scott and Jim Halpert in The Office for quite some years. Starring in the American sitcom since day one, the duo had many moments both on and off screen and it was indeed hard to say goodbye to the man who had been his on-screen boss for 6 years.

Well, Steve Carell announced that he would be leaving The Office after shooting season 7 of the American sitcom. As it turns out, John Krasinski had to say goodbye to the actor during the episode titled Goodbye, Michael, and he couldn’t control his emotions.

John Krasinski Thought That Everything Was Fine

Due to his agreement ending and Carell stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family, the actor announced that Season 7 of The Office would be his last and he wouldn’t look back at it again. Well, John Krasinski, who portrayed the character of Jim Halpert in the American sitcom had to be the one to say goodbye to the character that he once called his boss.

In an interview, Krasinski admitted that he had to keep a straight face during the shooting of the final scene of Steve Carell in The Office. As per the interview, Krasinski couldn’t do it as he just burst into tears the moment they said “Action!”.

“I would walk on set and people were already crying. All week, just tears everywhere. I remember turning to people like the cast members and crew members, I was like ‘Guys, pull it together. I mean this is his goodbye, you are freaking him out'”

The Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan actor further continued,

“I was like ‘It’s going to be fine, his contract was up. It’s fine, it’s no big deal. And then the last scene of his career on the show was me saying goodbye to his character. I got into this thing, totally still confident that everything was fine and we’d have a good goodbye and be friends later'”

Well, it wasn’t all as macho and suave as Krasinski had expected it would be since during the interview, he further continued that as soon as they yelled “action”, he couldn’t hold it in.

As the interview further continued, Krasinski talked about how he had to keep it all together. Stating that as soon as he entered the room and they yelled “action”,  Krasinski and Steve Carell both started fighting.

“And called action and just annihilated. I was annihilated with emotion. Just immediately, I think the first take we have it on sound, they should put it on DVD. Call action and I just go [sobbing hysterically] and then Steve’s like [sobbing]”

He further continued.

“I didn’t get one line out. It was just way too emotional, way too quick. It was because I think that we’re both from Boston which is a little bit more of a town, which is like ‘All right, leave emotions at the door'”

The Office ran for a total of 9 seasons, with the final season premiering in 2013. The American sitcom which became a cultural phenomenon is currently available to stream on Peacock Premium in the U.S.
