Sarah Jessica Parker has been an exceptionally talented actress even before her timeless portrayal of the character of Carrie Bradshaw in the iconic series, Sex and the City. She has been acting since a very young age, having starred in many famous works including the 80s classic, Footloose.
It is quite interesting to know, however, that before being part of one of the most influential series of the 2000s, Jessica Parker was fired from two movies, even being replaced by Sharon Stone in one.
Sarah Jessica Parker Was Fired And Replaced By Sharon Stone
During an interview on The Howard Stern Show in 2023, Sarah Jessica Parker once revealed that before starring in Sex and the City, she was supposedly fired from two animated movies, Home on the Range, and Antz. The actress added that though she did not remember which film fired her first, she does remember the team working on Antz telling her that they were looking to go in a much different direction and she would not be the best fit for that, saying that she would not be a good ant.
“I was fired from Antz, that animated movie. And I was fired from Home on the Range, that other animated movie,” Parker said. “Apparently I was a bad ant.” She went on, “I can’t remember which movie fired me first. The first time they were like, ‘we’re going in a different direction,’ which I always heard as a joke and that one was a cow.” she added, “I had my own [voice] and then they brought in Sharon Stone so I was like oh you really did go in a different direction,”
Jessica Parker usually found this excuse to be quite funny, thinking of it as a kind of joke, but that was not the case in this particular instance as the movie ended up replacing the actress with none other than the legendary actress, Sharon Stone, best known for her work in Basic Instinct. When Jessica Parker heard this news, she understood they really did want to go in a completely different direction.
Sarah Jessica Parker Was Not Happy When She Was Fired From Antz
Despite being fired, however, Sarah Jessica Parker holds absolutely no bad feelings toward anyone involved now even though that was not the case initially. The actress stated that the only thing she found upsetting about this interaction was the fact that the team called her up a week before firing her to tell her how well she was doing in her role. She added that she thought that that was a setup of sorts, though she believes that they did mean it at the time. She also
“What was upsetting was they even called me like the week before they fired me. They called to tell me how great I was, which I felt was like a setup but I think they meant it at that time.” she went on, “When I found out about Antz, I was walking around with [husband] Matthew Broderick and we were looking for an apartment to buy and then I got a call and they’re like ‘hey listen’ and I was like I can’t believe I’m about to purchase a home,”
She even went on to reveal that when she received the call that informed her that she was being let go from the project, she was on her way with her husband, Matthew Broderick, to buy a house together. Despite all of this, the actress laughs at this experience now, being an incredibly successful actress herself.
