It is not rare that a mangaka gets inspired by another piece of work, which motivates them to create a masterpiece of their own. The list of examples of the times this happened includes the names of Akira Toriyama, Masashi Kishimoto and none other than Tite Kubo, the creator of Bleach.
When we dive deeper into what inspired Kubo to essentially create Bleach, an interaction done back in 2018 at San Diego’s Comic-Con between the fans and the creator of Bleach reveals a lot of what went behind the scenes before the series came into existence.
Manga Titles That Inspired Tite Kubo To Create Bleach
Bleach is without a doubt a masterpiece, considered one of the “Big Three” shounen-style anime, the series is loved by millions around the world, and the recent comeback of the animated series has only made it grow more. While it is unique from other anime series, an interaction held at Tite Kubo at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con VIA Liveabout revealed what inspired him to draw as well as how he originally imagined the series.
“I wanted to draw Soul Reapers wearing kimono“, the creator revealed, how he imagined something totally different from what we got to see in the series. Furthermore, when asked about what inspired him to start drawing and become a mangaka, he answered that Saint Seiya by Masami Kurumada as well as Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro by Shigeru Mizuki has always been his all times favourite and are the titles that motivated him to get into the industry.
Impact Of Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro And Saint Seiya On Bleach
On the same occasion as the last one, Kubo also revealed the fact that he has always liked the monsters in the Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro series. When it comes to Saint Seiya, also known as Knights Of The Zodiac, Kubo said that “the characters all wear armor and have interesting weapons.“
Both of the above factors are something that has been used in his series as well and can be observed easily while one reads the manga or watches the animated series.
