Ryan Reynolds Took Inspiration From Bollywood For Free Guy

Ryan Reynolds‘ 2021 film Free Guy was received very well by critics and audiences. Based in a gaming world known as Free City and starring Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, and Taika Waititi, the movie has been described as a fun and entertaining experience for adults and kids.

Talking about the movie during a press conference, the actor revealed that he took inspiration for his character and its persona from Bollywood. “I think that Bollywood is really adept at infusing joy,” he said. The X-Men actor also stated that it is something that Hollywood could certainly use more of. He further mentioned,

“I meant it when I mentioned it when Free Guy came out that, you know, there are elements that Free Guy was borrowing from Bollywood.”

Further into the conversation, he said that due to different reasons, things have been “challenging” for people for the last several years, and he wanted the movie to work as an “antidote” to those feelings. The Hollywood star said, “I wanted it to feel like joy” in a very organic and very natural way.

Ryan Reynolds Shares Updates Regarding a Free Guy Sequel

Free Guy enjoyed a positive response from the audience and critics and also did pretty great at the box office. Following its success, Reynolds and director Shawn Levy shared that Disney “confirmed today they officially want a sequel.”

20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell later confirmed that the script of the movie is almost complete. The director and the lead star of the film have shared that it’s not easy to make a worthy sequel. Reynolds, who said that he would love to see a sequel for the 2021 movie, also raised the question, “Does everything f***ing have to be a sequel?”

However, he also said that nothing is confirmed, and the discussions surrounding a sequel are still going on. The actor-director duo, who has worked together for Netflix’s The Adam Project and Free Guy, are once again collaborating for Marvel’s Deadpool 3.
