As Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster Barbie approaches its release date, Ryan Gosling speaks candidly about his experience and even discusses why he stepped away from Hollywood for a while. Venturing into the spotlight after years, with a headline-making movie, Gosling claimed to rely on his wife Eva Mendes for important decisions.

Opening up about his relationship with his wife, Ryan Gosling discussed why he went incognito until last year’s The Gray Man. Stating how he chose to be away from Hollywood, the actor mentioned taking a break from movies. Speaking about Mendes, Gosling confined to GQ during an interview, how he no longer considers acting as therapy.

Ryan Gosling Confessed Relying On His Wife

Often known for being a rom-com heartthrob of Hollywood, Ryan Gosling yet again ventured into the spotlight with Greta Gerwig’s upcoming summer blockbuster Barbie. Choosing the role of Barbie’s abs-flashing, employment-challenged, himbo boyfriend Ken, Gosling spoke candidly about his absence from Hollywood.

While speaking about his career, Gosling claimed how he became a different man after meeting his wife, Eva Mendes. Getting married in 2014, the actor recalled how he found a different approach to life and a meaningful career. Giving all due credit to Mendes for being a supportive partner, Gosling stated how he often relies on his wife for important decisions.

Explaining his absence from Hollywood, the actor confessed that he had been doing a few movies just for the sake of his audiences. However, personally, he simply wished to spend more time with his family following the birth of his children. “I wanted to spend as much time as I could with them.” Ryan Gosling stated. Thus, stepping away from his career for a while, The Notebook actor expressed finding peace in his family.

Eva Mendes Changed Ryan Gosling’s Perspective 

Although Ryan Gosling recently ventured into his role as Ken in Barbie, the actor mentioned how he made a comeback with his role in The Gray Man following his long-drawn absence. Previously confessing how he found comfort and peace among his family, Gosling discussed his change in perspective after meeting his wife, Eva Mendes

The actor revealed, there was a time when he used to consider his acting career as his life and a therapeutic experience. However, things changed once he fell in love with Mendes and married her. Having a family seems to have changed Gosling altogether. The actor even mentioned that his time away solidified a few changes in his attitude towards his career.  

I treat it more like work now, and not like it’s, you know, therapy. It’s a job, and I think in a way that allows me to be better at it because there’s less interference.” Ryan Gosling stated.

Recalling how he previously disliked losing opportunities in his career, the actor claimed how things changed following his marriage. Ryan Gosling stated how he currently makes movies for himself, rather than to please others. Discussing the changes he experienced after he stopped living up to other people’s expectations, Gosling recalled how somebody once told him, “Your job is just to feel it.” 

Thus, Ryan Gosling rested his case as to why he started relying on his wife after she changed his perspective towards his life and career, for good.
