"I thought they were coming to scream at me": Mark Ruffalo Was Terrified Kevin Feige Will Recast Him as Hulk

The wait for their favorite film can often make fans impatient, and even a little spoiler of the film or, in more legal terms, a little glimpse of a film is enough to bring a sigh of relief. In that case, the Marvel actor Mark Ruffalo, popularly known for playing the green giant, the Hulk, has been the person who has often given spoilers about Marvel films.

Previously, the actor unknowingly revealed details about the then-upcoming film Thor: Ragnarok. The incident, which could have dire consequences for the film and Ruffalo’s career, actually turned out to be in its favor.

Mark Ruffalo’s spoilery nature once brought his job in danger

Giving spoilers about the latest releases has not been a new thing for actor Mark Ruffalo. Be it revealing about Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk’s appearance in an Avenger film, or nearly disclosing the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Ruffalo has been the person who certainly has no control over his impulses.

One time, the actor inadvertently leaked the spoiler of Chris Hemsworth’s starring film Thor: Ragnarok. However, this time his loose tongue didn’t create a problem as it was his phone that he forgot to turn off.

Before the worldwide release of Thor: Ragnarok, the film was premiered at the EI Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. All the Marvel actors were present there to attend the event including Ruffalo. To create a buzz for the film among the fans, Ruffalo live-streamed himself on Instagram before the film started.

The time the film began, Ruffalo kept his phone in his pocket thinking that he had turned off his phone. However, to his surprise, the phone didn’t turn off and the people who joined his live-stream heard the initial piece of the movie’s 10 minutes. In no time, this spoiler became a headline and garnered much attention from the fans.

Later, during an appearance on Late Night with Stephen Colbert (via Cinemablend), the actor explained that all the chaos happened because he pressed the wrong button on Instagram. The actor got a little confused while ending the live stream and he assumed that he had ended the video by clicking on the right button, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, as the live stream went on going while his phone was in his pocket.

However, soon Ruffalo was informed by a person present there that his video was still streaming on Instagram, and as he checked it, he realized that his inbox had been flooded with messages from people trying to alert him about what was happening.

Though whatever happened was not deliberate, Ruffalo feared that this incident might eat up his job at Marvel.

After being the man behind all the chaos, it’s obvious to have fear about losing the job. Mark Ruffalo also had such fears after his livestream became the reason for disclosing Thor: Ragnarok‘s spoiler.

He thought that he might get fired from Marvel as initially, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was unhappy with the incident caused by Ruffalo, but later when they met in person, Feige hugged Ruffalo and told him that his livestream got more press than the film’s premiere itself. During an interview with EW, Ruffalo said,

“Well it sort of turned around on me, because when I came to work on Monday, everyone ran up to me. I thought they were coming to scream at me. ‘Barry [Curtis]?’ And he threw his arms around me and was like, ‘That was genius!’ We got more press than we could possibly have paid for.”

What was initially seen as a huge mistake later turned out to be a genuine move for the promotion of the film.
