Tobey Maguire, the original Spider-Man actor in the movies directed by Sam Raimi, Andrew Garfield the most comic-accurate Spider-Man, and Tom Holland – MCU’s Spider-Man came together in Spider-Man: No Way Home to create a movie. Tobey Maguire got the initial call from Marvel Studios asking if he would want to put on the suit again, which he happily accepted. Though Maguire had some concerns about returning, people loved it.

Sam Raimi Tears Up Upon Tobey Maguire’s Return

Sam Raimi was the one who directed the initial Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire cast as Peter Parker. The first movie was released in 2002, the sequel came in 2004, and the third installment in 2007. So it had been 14 years since Maguire got into the suit, and there was no reason for him to reprise his role because there were no projects that included Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. But when Sam Raimi saw Maguire in No Way Home he immediately teared up. Later he commented, “When I saw Tobey Maguire, my heart went out and I thought there’s my old hero, my old friend.”.

“The way Tobey did that performance, it looked like he had lived kind of a hard life as Spider-Man. So it was really emotional and so well done, but it was also like spending an afternoon with old friends who I hadn’t seen in 15 years. It was beautiful.”

Just like his old friend, Sam Raimi also returned to the world of superheroes and villains and made his MCU debut movie directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. The movie ranked fourth in terms of box office collection worldwide in 2022 as it amassed a total of more than $950 million. While Spider-Man: No Way Home tore through many records, the movie was a massive success at the box office as it gathered a total of more than $1.9 billion worldwide.

The Peter Parker Trio In Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home forged a strong relationship between the three, Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire. The lifelong dream of millions of Spider-Man and MCU fans has come true with this collab. This multiversal event occurred because Tom Holland’s Peter Parker’s identity getting revealed and him trying to reverse it by getting help from Doctor Strange. Andrew Garfield in an interview with GQ shared,

“I got to treat it like a short film about Spider-Man with buddies. The pressure was off me. It was all on Tom’s shoulders. Like, it’s his trilogy, and me and Tobey were there to provide support and have as good a time as possible, actually, and be as inventive, imaginative, and kind of dumb as possible.

Y’know, between the three of us, I was like, Oh s***, this is going to be interesting. You have three people who feel real ownership over this character. But it was really, like, brotherhood first, I think. And I think that comes through in what we shot.”

But not only did the Peter Parkers come together, but their main antagonists also showed up in the same universe. Green Goblin, Dr. Octavius, Dr. Connors, and even Electro came together to wreak havoc but were subjugated as they were sent to the Sanctum by Doctor Strange. Later when they got out and started fighting, the trio came together and defeated the group of villains.
