You Season 5 could be the last, says Penn Badgley
Talking to IndieWire, actor Penn Badgley revealed that his hit series You should head into a 5th season but it would possibly be the last. Despite a well-rounded climax in Season 4 that could have served as the finale for the series, The Paper Store actor said,
“It feels to me like we need to do another season. It feels to me like Joe needs to get what’s coming to him, and now he has further to fall because he has all this power and wealth,”
He also went on to say that the decision was not his to make as it was the onus of the writers of the show to take a call about where the character needed to go. Penn Badgley expressed his confidence in the creators’ ability to steer the show and his character toward a spectacular conclusion.
Penn Badgley talks about the growth of Joe Goldberg in Season 4
Speaking about the currently concluded Season 4 of You, Penn Badgley detailed his views on his character. He alluded to a more aware and astute Joe Goldberg and said,
“I think maybe where it’s changing is this season, you realize it’s not about anyone else. You realize it’s about him. I think it draws you into a definition of ‘who I am and what do I want, and can I change. Is that possible? What have I done?’”
The Easy A actor said that Season 4 could be considered as Part 1 of the conclusion with Season 5 wrapping up Part 2. He also went on to add that if Netflix does not sign up for a 5th season, then the chilling climax of Season 4 could well be satisfactory for fans of the show. The actor concluded with his desire to work for a final season especially since the producer of the show Greg Berlanti had already pitched a brilliant climax that would serve as a great ending for the show.
