The Acolyte is an upcoming television series that is part of a new generation of the Star Wars franchise. With the many ups and downs that the cinematic universe has been through, it seems that the franchise is going through its various “mistakes” and where it went wrong.
Back in 2017, director Rian Johnson tried out his best in making Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Although perspectives differ, the movie was widely considered a letdown by Star Wars fans. The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland hopes to look at those mistakes and improve her series.
The Acolyte Showrunner Learned From Star Wars: The Last Jedi
With Daisy Ridley starring as Rey and Mark Hammil as Luke Skywalker, The Last Jedi worked as a young Padawan/Jedi Master movie. Although various people have written varied reviews of the film, it seemed that the format of the movie did not sit quite well with fans.

Well, the Star Wars franchise hopes to have the same format again but states that it has learned from its past mistake and will surely do better. The showrunner of the upcoming series The Acolyte, Leslye Headland spoke in an interview with Collider about her series. Stating that it has tried to smooth out the flaws, Headland agreed that Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi was indeed a letdown and that they have learned what not to do.
“I think it’s difficult to do a show that is critical in any way of the Jedi. And I think that you saw that with [Rian Johnson’s] film. Do you know what I mean? Like, I think that, especially in that moment, people were very nervous about saying this particular institution may not be the light and perfect, stunning group of heroes that are totally nobly intentioned… That’s really the story that George [Lucas] told with the prequels, right? The fall of this particular group.”
The interview further stated how Headland originally pitched the idea of The Acolyte to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Stating that a Jedi against Jedi project would make people nervous, Headland was amazed that Kathleen Kennedy was onboard the project.
“I think when you think you’re going to tell the story about bad guys, and the Jedis might be the antagonist to those Jedis, I think that makes people nervous. But it didn’t make Kathy nervous.”
After the pitch, the president of Lucasfilm herself gave a review of the upcoming television series which is quite a unique take on the Star Wars franchise.
What Kathleen Kennedy Has To Say About The Acolyte
Kennedy had a lot to say about the next generation of Star Wars that they plan to introduce to the people. Talking about The Acolyte, the president gave her unique take on the series and gave the idea of what “Frozen meets Kill Bill” would look like.
“[I was] blown away by what I was seeing and every bit of love that [Headland] has for Star Wars is on the screen.”
The above-mentioned statements are in sync with what Kathleen Kennedy had hoped for the next generation of Star Wars movies and series. She had promised that the franchise would not become too generic and common and a Frozen x Kill Bill crossover does seem a unique take for Star Wars fans.
