Ana de Armas is a growing star in Hollywood, she has worked her way through being a household name now. Despite her enormous beauty, the Cuban-Spanish actor has shown her prowess over the years by appearing in several movies since her Hollywood debut in Eli Roth’s 2015 thriller Knock Knock.

Ana De Armas came from a humble background and forged the road to success with hard work, passion, and inspiration from two Hollywood celebrities— Julia Roberts and Tom Hank. “I remember looking up to Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks because they had all these movies on TV,” she told Golden Globes once. Born to a Cuban family, Armas’ background was not wealthy or never had a link to the entertainment industry. “I come from a modest family in Cuba, both my parents are workers, we’re no one’s children, no one’s cousins, we don’t know anyone,” the actor revealed. Later the actor Moved to the United States for a bigger platform for her dreams but she dearly missed her family and hometown.
“I grew up in nature, at the beach, and playing on the streets with friends. I felt very free. Just going wild out there and coming back home to have dinner and watch cartoons,” The Ghosted actor once told Men’s Journal.
Armas soon found a busy schedule as the actor has grown to immense popularity primarily for her exquisite beauty and marvelous performance skills. Of course, she had acted more in action films but her non-action roles like Marilyn Monroe in Blonde has proved that she can perform across genre.
Conquering All Odds in Hollywood
Almost every actor with a Hollywood dream at the beginning of their career one way or another had to overcome the struggles of breaking into the industry. For Armas, it was not the smooth surface of a creamy cake as well. Being native to Cuba, the actor struggled with communicating in English, acting was not a problem as she was already a big star in Spain working there for eight years. The Deep Water actor landed in Los Angeles in 2015 and she got her first gig right after as she collaborated with none other than Keanu Reeves. But “I wasn’t really sure what I was saying,” Armas told The Hollywood Reporters. Soon, the actor enrolled in English classes to sustain himself in the industry.
However, she wanted to change the perception of Hollywood as she attempted to rise above typecast. Following her English lessons, the actor warned her team that she would not fall victim to typecasting and would not do Latin-specific roles.
“I said, ‘I don’t want to audition for Maria, Juana and Lola and all these things. I want to audition for the same parts that everybody is auditioning for,’” she told the outlet.
The 35-year-old did rise above all odds as she appeared in several big Hollywood projects including, Knives Out, the James Bond movie No Time to Die, and of course, her iconic appearance in Blade Runner 2049. Right now, she is one of the sexiest Hollywood celebrities currently working in the industry. Also, Armas has joined the John Wick Universe and is all set to lead the spin-off of the superhit franchise Ballerina. The Len Wiseman-directed movie is scheduled to hit theaters on 7 June 2024.
