Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s romance occupies the first position in Hollywood’s long list of turbulent celebrity relationships. From multiple breakups and a wedding that nearly happened but got canceled, to a string of different romantic partners, JLo and Affleck have been through it all. But despite all the tumult surrounding their relationship, the pair managed to find their way back to each other after finally tying the knot last year. And turns out, fans weren’t the only ones rooting for Bennifer.
Jennifer Lopez’s Mother Believed in JLo & Ben Affleck’s Love
During her recent appearance on Today for the promotion of her forthcoming Netflix venture titled The Mother, Jennifer Lopez‘s mother shared her two cents on her daughter’s marriage with Ben Affleck. And it looks like JLo’s mom is absolutely in adoration of her son-in-law after incessantly “praying” for her daughter to end up with him.
While Lopez, 53, did get engaged to Affleck in 2002, they never made it to an actual wedding and went their own ways in 2004. But after reviving their romance nearly 20 years later, the pair got betrothed not once, but twice, first in Vegas and then in Georgia. They certainly made up for the time when they almost got married, didn’t they?
While fans were jubilant to learn about Bennifer 2.0, nobody but JLo’s mother was more thrilled about their rekindled romance. “I knew that you would always get back together — because I prayed for 20 years,” Guadalupe Rodríguez said on Today. Lopez, who seemed a little irritated by her mother’s unanticipated remark, prompted the co-anchor Hoda Kotb to change of topic. In a separate discussion during the interview, however, the Hustlers star lauded her husband for being a “wonderful father figure” to her kids. “They love him, and they appreciate him — and so do I,” she gushed.
The Chaotic Timeline of JLo And Ben Affleck’s Romance
Although Affleck and Lopez got married only last year, they share a much more lengthy history that can be traced back over two decades. The lovebirds’ first-ever interaction took place back in 2001 on the set of Gigli, a box office catastrophe that ironically enough, turned out to be the catalyst for their romance. Soon after JLo announced her divorce from then-husband Cris Judd, she went public with her and Affleck’s relationship.
In November 2002, the singer got engaged to the Dawn of Justice star, only for their wedding to get postponed a year later, courtesy of the “excessive media attention” that made the couple feel “awry.” Unfortunately enough though, the wedding never happened and Bennifer didn’t make it through 2004. While the Shotgun Wedding star moved on and started a new life with Marc Anthony, Affleck got married to Jennifer Garner in 2005. But neither of their attempts at fresh beginnings lasted with JLo divorcing Anthony a decade into their marriage and the Gone Girl star calling it quits with Garner in 2018.
Then came 2021, the year of surprises and exhilaration for Bennifer fans after the duo’s Montana getaway which turned into a full-fledged romance in no time. And before you knew it, Lopez and Affleck were reading their wedding vows in Las Vegas. Talk about fighting against all odds.
JLo’s The Mother releases on Netflix on May 12, 2023.
