Renowned for his remarkable performances in blockbuster films like The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean, Orlando Bloom has established himself as a highly skilled actor. His charismatic presence and ability to portray diverse characters have garnered global acclaim, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
In August 2020, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom joyfully embraced the arrival of their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, as she joined the family alongside Bloom’s son, Flynn Christopher Bloom, whom he shares with his former wife, Miranda Kerr. The responsibility of being a father holds immense significance for this prominent figure, especially considering his past ordeal of enduring a harrowing accident.
Orlando Bloom Was Lucky To Have Survived A Terryfying Accident
Despite the captivating performances showcased in his films, Orlando Bloom’s physical journey has been tumultuous. Prior to his iconic portrayals of characters like Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, he endured a life-threatening incident that remains largely unknown to the casual observer.
“The NHS saved my life when I was 20 after I fell from a 3rd floor window and broke my back. Having lived in the US for nearly 20 years now it’s one of the public services from home I’ll always respect the most,” Bloom wrote on Instagram.
Through the support of the National Health Service (NHS), the publicly-funded healthcare system in the United Kingdom, Bloom received the necessary care to facilitate his recovery, paving the way for him to embrace the role of a father to his two children.
“Before the operation, I needed four nurses to help me move,” Bloom told Chicago Tribune. “Ten days later, I walked out of the hospital. I had a miraculous recovery.”
Orlando Bloom Also Met An Accident While Filming LOTR
Shortly after Bloom’s recuperation from the scary fall, his path intersected with director Peter Jackson, who happened to witness his talent during a theater performance. Impressed by his abilities, Jackson handpicked Bloom for the coveted role of Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey for Bloom as he gracefully portrayed the Elven prince not only in the original trilogy but also reprised the character’s role in two installments of The Hobbit saga.
Amidst the demanding action sequences and extensive on-location filming of The Lord of the Rings, Bloom encountered numerous injuries throughout the film’s production schedule. These behind-the-scenes revelations were unveiled in the DVD extras, where co-star Dominic Monaghan shed light on the challenges Bloom faced during the making of the epic trilogy.
“In all seriousness, everyone got hurt in this movie,” Monaghan said. “Everyone was scarred. Everyone went through a little bit of physical kind of pain. Orlando fell off his horse and the scale double of Gimli fell on top of Orlando and broke his rib.”
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is available for streaming on HBO Max.
