“I learned my lesson”: Russell Crowe’s Cruel Prank on Ryan Gosling Had the Actor Freaking Out, Vowed Never to Hang Out With ‘Gladiator’ Star Again

Ryan Gosling has won fans’ hearts once again with his splendid performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg,  since he is already an accomplished actor with many extremely great projects in his portfolio. One such notable role was when he worked as a private eye alongside Russell Crowe in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys.

In a 2016 appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ryan Gosling revealed that he hung out with his The Nice Guys co-star, Russell Crowe once quite early during filming. He shared that the latter invited him along with the crew to watch a rugby game at a bar that he bought at the time. Things started to get interesting as he recalled,

“We were there to watch a game and he gave everybody hats. And I sat down next to him and he had a big ice chest of ginger beer and he had a big ice chest of vodka and he just kept pouring me drinks.”

Gosling decided to try to keep up with the Gladiator star.

“I was like, I have to do this. You know, this is like, I’m gonna work with this guy for… I have to just try and at least go like one for three.”

That was when things started to slip out of his hands when the veteran actor started showing off his actual skills which was nothing like what the former would have imagined.

As per the actor, Crowe knew every move of the team that they were watching.

“He’s in all of these players’ heads. He knows how they’re gonna move. He knows where they’re gonna move. He just knows everything and it’s freakish.”

The next thing he recalled was getting ‘soupy’ only to find himself on the TV. However, he was freaked out when he saw Crowe on the television and another Crowe enjoying the show beside him.

“I’m getting more and more soupy as the night goes on, and by the end of the night I look around and everyone’s wearing white hats and I feel like I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole,” Gosling recalled. “I look at the TV screen and Russell is on the TV, accepting this trophy — and he’s got his arm around me in Atlanta. I said, ‘Thank you for a lovely night. I got to get home.'”

It was later he realized the next morning that they were watching a ‘taped game.’ That incident taught him the lesson that he would never hang out with him again. As for the movie, it garnered positive reviews from critics grossing $62 million.

The Nice Guys is streaming on Netflix.
