The current state of The Witcher isn’t pretty, with fans bashing the third season following Henry Cavill’s exit, passing the title of Geralt of Rivia to Liam Hemsworth. And reflecting on the situation, Tomek Bagiński, the executive producer of The Witcher, has expressed his optimism about Geralt’s future moving ahead.
But aside from showcasing his optimism for the next chapter in Geralt’s journey, Bagiński refused to give the exact reasons behind Cavill’s exit. But his comments did imply that the situation behind the Man of Steel Star’s exit might be deeper than it initially appeared.
The Witcher Executive Producer Breaks Silence on Henry Cavill’s Exit
Although it has been rumored that creative differences between Henry Cavill and the showrunners eventually led to his exit, there might be more to it. Tomek Bagiński revealed that Cavill’s untimely exit was out of the blue, and he was aware of the situation a few days after the official announcement. He further claimed he learned about “many things after the fact”, but didn’t want to go into it, implying there might be something more than just creative differences between Cavill and the writers.
“After shooting Season 3, I took my first vacation in four years and cut myself off. I found out about the case a few days before the official announcement,” Bagiński says. “I do not want to go into the reasons for this decision, because I learned about many things after the fact.”
Although most of the details have been kept away from the public eye, it’s reasonable to assume Cavill’s adamancy about being faithful to the books might’ve created some rift between him and the writers.
Tomek Bagiński Is Excited for Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt
Despite the backlash season 3 of the Netflix original has been receiving, Tomek Bagiński is optimistic about The Witcher moving forward and is excited to witness Liam Hemsworth‘s Geralt. After comparing Geralt with Batman and James Bond, claiming that it shouldn’t be exclusive to one actor and should always be open for new interpretations, he is sold on Liam Hemsworth’s casting.
“The Witcher has already reached the level of Batman, Superman and James Bond. Maybe we hoped to see him in a new version only in a few years, but it happened now. And that’s nothing new for iconic pop culture heroes.” Bagiński said.
Whether Liam Hemsworth will be able to fill Henry Cavill’s shoes as Geralt remains up for debate, fans are definitely not pleased with how the creators handled his swansong in season 3.
The Witcher season 3 is streaming on Netflix.
