“I know where people fall through the cracks”: She-Hulk Star Tatiana Maslany Risks Future MCU Appearance After Joining Forces With Mark Ruffalo to Fight Ignorant Disney CEO Bob Iger

She-Hulk Star Tatiana Maslany Risks Future MCU Appearance After Joining Forces With Mark Ruffalo to Fight Ignorant Disney CEO Bob Iger

Since more than two months ago, Hollywood writers have been adamantly pursuing equal pay. And now actors, who have also suffered as a result of the industry’s neglect, have joined the cause. While the labor dispute is still raging, Disney CEO, Bob Iger has his own beef with the unions for adding to global “disruption” with their irrational demands. Now, Canadian actress, Tatiana Maslany recently vented her anger and disappointment at Iger, calling him “completely out of touch” with the issues that her fellow colleagues face.

May 2 marked the start of a strike by writers in the film and television industries against unfair pay and AI overreach. Since 14 July, it has coincided with a SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strike, as part of a larger labor dispute in Hollywood.

Tatiana Maslany Slammed Disney CEO

Hollywood writers and actors have been striking for the last few weeks in a passionate effort to demand respectable pay from major studios. This has already put some of Disney’s and other studios’ biggest films at risk of delays.

Along with the debate itself, Bob Iger, the CEO of one of the biggest studios, fueled the flames with his own comments on the subject. The strikes were “very disturbing,” Iger said earlier this month.

He kept making this situation worse while actors and writers tried to find new jobs, asking the SAG-AFTRA and WGA unions to “be realistic” in their wage demands.

Tatiana Maslany, however, argued otherwise.

Maslany criticized Iger for his recent remarks regarding the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes in her interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The 37-year-old actress bluntly expressed her feelings that many actors and writers have “been completely cast aside” in these proceedings as she pointed to longtime professional friends, who have seen their wages decline in recent years:

“I have friends who have been doing this for 30 to 40 years and have lost their health care because the minimums are so relatively low, but wages have gone down, people’s quotes no longer stand for anything. It’s just like we’ve been completely cast aside.”

She-Hulk Star Says Disney CEO Was ‘Completely Out Of Touch

Tatiana Maslany has established a reputation as not only a versatile performer but also as an outspoken supporter of social justice and equality. She is best known for her remarkable role in the popular television series, Orphan Black.

And that blast against the Disney CEO was not enough from someone who has played the lead character on a Marvel show. It appears that the Orphan Black star has seen firsthand the harsh and vile reality of the studio.

In response to a question regarding Bob Iger’s recent remarks that the strike was “very disturbing,” Maslany bluntly told the publication:

“I think he [Bob Iger]’s completely out of touch. He’s completely out of touch with the workers who make his shows happen, who make people watch these shows, who bring viewers to him and him money.”

The Stronger actress also noted how “people are taken advantage of” at Disney as she further argued:

“Having worked on a Disney show, I know where people fall through the cracks and where people are taken advantage of and it’s outrageous the amount of wealth that is not shared with the people who actually make the show. That’s crew, cast, writers.”

The actors’ and writers’ strikes are still ongoing, and there are currently no indications of when they might end. In fact, some people think that the strike might still be going strong at the beginning of 2024.

Fans are eager to see how these remarks help bring the strikes to a close because Maslany is by no means the only actor to speak out on these issues.

The actress last worked with Disney in 2022, when she appeared in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, a superhero series created by Jessica Gao. She is currently appearing on Broadway in Grey House.
