Turns out not only is the actor can play the stone-cold British detective, James Bond, but he also possesses an exquisite sense of humor. Thus people now think it is high time the retired 007 actor makes his debut in the mad mad multiverse of MCU.
Was Daniel Craig Really Offered Thor Before Anyone Else?
Despite ongoing speculations, the truth regarding whether Daniel Craig was actually offered the role of Thor may never be known. In a 2008 interview, Craig explicitly stated that it was all a joke he made up. However, even today, many persist in spreading the story of Craig turning down the role, which ultimately became a successful franchise and launched actor Chris Hemsworth to great heights of success and a fan favorite.
In the said 2008, IESB interview, the actor stated,
“I have no idea about Thor– I just was having a joke!”
In hindsight, the actor expressed remorse for his earlier joke and promised to be more mindful of his jests in the future. Despite his clarification, people remained skeptical and continued to believe there might be some truth to the rumor. However, much to everyone’s surprise, years later, the rumor became a reality, and this time it was confirmed by Elizabeth Olsen that it was actually not a joke.
Daniel Craig Was Finally Ready to Make His MCU Debut?
The actor famous for portraying 007 was prepared to join the clan of the Asgardian brothers, Thor and Loki, in the role of their half-brother, Balder the Brave. Initially, there were speculations about the character receiving their own standalone show. However, it was later confirmed that the character would make an appearance in the second installment of the Doctor Strange franchise to test the waters first. Unfortunately, to the dismay of fans, his role ended up being featured in deleted scenes from the film upon its release.
While promoting the movie, Elizabeth Olsen confirmed the fact by saying,
“Yes, that’s what I thought was going to happen too. I saw the art. They made a costume. They had a design.”
Olsen confirmed that despite having everything mapped out, the cameo for some reason did not end up taking place. Given her remarks, Marvel’s decision to remove Daniel Craig’s cameo as Balder in the Doctor Strange sequel sparked quite a lot of speculation among the fans. It has left MCU fans pondering the reasons behind this choice and lamenting the missed opportunity to witness Craig in something fresh.
