But all this fame and reputation was about to turn naught for her highly alluring role in Basic Instinct. Apart from putting a lot of pressure on her marriage, she lost custody of her child and was even humiliated and criticized by many for her performance as the femme fatale in the movie.

In an interview with Variety, Sharon Stone shared that she was forced to remove her undergarments on the pretext of “We can’t see anything”.

“That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, ‘We can’t see anything — I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.’ Now, here is the issue. It didn’t matter anymore. It was me and my parts up there. I had decisions to make.”

The actress shared:

“When the judge asked my child — my tiny little boy, ‘Do you know your mother makes s-x movies?’ Like, this kind of abuse by the system — that I was considered what kind of parent I was, because I made that movie.”

Stone was not aware of her n*de scene until it was up for screening and she was horribly humiliated by the scene, to the point that she just wanted to crawl into a hole.

Basic Instinct: A Highly Controversial and Famous Movie

The 1992 erotic thriller movie Basic Instinct was directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Joe Eszterhas. A homicide investigator Nick Curran, played by Michael Douglas in the movie, he looks into the death of millionaire rock musician Johnny Boz, played by George Dzundza. The main suspect is Boz’s girlfriend Catherine Tramell played by Sharon Stone, a bisexual author who also wrote a book about a rock musician who was killed similarly.

A contentious movie has drawn criticism for its violence and misogyny as well as admiration for its s*xiness and suspense. With over $352.6 million in international box office receipts, the movie was a box office hit. Additionally, it was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Director. It was not without its critics, though; some of them referred to it as trashy and exploitative.
