“I just hope that I get to work with them again”: Blue Beetle’s Xolo Maridueña Wants Cobra Kai Revival – Will Ralph Macchio, William Zabka Return?

Blue Beetle's Xolo Maridueña Wants Cobra Kai Revival - Will Ralph Macchio, William Zabka Return?

Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle underwhelmed at the box office with just over $106 million worldwide collection. But Jaime Reyes’ failure to attract fans to theaters hasn’t dented the excitement around the sixth chapter of Miguel Diaz’s journey in Cobra Kai.

The Netflix series, which is a sequel to the original The Karate Kid franchise, has proven to be a huge success for the streaming giant, having amassed a huge fan following ever since its premiere in 2018.

As the showrunners approach the sixth and final season of the action comedy, Maridueña, who portrays Karate prodigy Miguel, has sent Cobra Kai fans into a frenzy by indicating his desire to reunite with his co-stars.

What Xolo Maridueña Said About Reuniting With His Cobra Kai Co-stars

Cobra Kai mainly revolves around the life of Xolo Maridueña, Miguel, who is the neighbor of former karate champion Johnny Lawrence. After a bit of a struggle, he convinces Johnny to train him.

This kickstarts not only his coach’s redemption arc through the reopening of Cobra Kai Dojo but also changes Miguel’s personality, as he becomes more ruthless. Across five seasons, we follow the development of Maridueña’s character and the changing dynamics of his relationship with Samantha LaRusso and Robby Keene, who’s the estranged son of Johnny.

Season 5 is all about Johnny attempting to repair the rivalry between his student and his son. The show has already been renewed for Season 6 but due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood fans might have to wait longer than previous chapters to see how Miguel’s adventures unfold.

Much like his on-screen avatar, Maridueña has come a long way and evolved alongside his co-stars. Reflecting on his time with other Cobra Kai actors, the Latin-origin actor told V Magazine:

“It is bittersweet. It definitely is. I mean, I really grew up with everyone on the show. Just as those high school years are important for kids – those same years, I was spending with these guys.”

The 22-year-old also went on to suggest that six seasons might not be enough and expressed his desire to reunite with the cast. He added:

“So, I just hope that I get to work with them again. I can’t help but feel like the party is ending. Especially with filming this last season, there’s this final tone in the air. We’re so grateful to have done six seasons, that’s crazy. And I just hope that we get to reunite in 30 years and do, you know, Cobra, Kai v2 or whatever that looks like. I love those guys.”

It’s interesting the young actor mentioned the “30 years” period for another take on Cobra Kai because the Netflix show premiered more or less 30 years after Ralph Macchio last featured as the lead in The Karate Kid franchise.

Will Ralph Macchio Return in Another Cobra Kai Series?

Much like Miguel and Robby, Johnny (William Zabka) and Daniel Larusso (Macchio) were rivals in their teenage years in The Karate Kid.

In Cobra Kai, decades after their 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament bout, the duo, now middle-aged, reignite their rivalries through their students. Miguel is also involved in on- and off- relationships with Daniel’s daughter, Samantha across five seasons.

Both Macchio, 61, and Zabka, 57, act as a bridge between The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai as such it’s tough to imagine another project without these two characters.

However, considering the timeline suggested by Maridueña, it’s unlikely we’ll see the pair get into yet another Karate rivalry in their 90s. But you can’t rule out any possibilities in the entertainment industry until there’s a formal word.
