“I have a real love-hate thing going on with Disney”: Ryan Gosling Sells a Wild Story To Hide His Unhealthy Obsession With Disneyland

Ryan Gosling has had a long career with Disney that started in 1993 when he was only 12 and joined the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club alongside Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera. He was on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club in its final two seasons. He has now become the latest cast member to achieve a Hot 100 hit due to I’m Just Ken from Barbie, in which he stars with Margot Robbie.

Ryan Gosling went on Conan to promote his movie Drive in 2011. He made the biggest impression on the audience by getting a little creative with his love-hate relationship with Disney when host Conan O’Brien asked Gosling about his time with Disney (O’Brien was referring to Gosling’s early September cuddlefest with The Place Beyond the Pines co-star Eva Mendes at the Anaheim, Calif., park). But Gosling had another tale to tell.

Ryan Gosling had a story to tell that everyone might not be aware of. In 2011, he told talk show host Conan O’Brien on his show that he has a real hate-love thing going for Disney. Then he started funnily addressing that he doesn’t want to get sued by Disney:

“There is a belief that Disney has been breeding an army of cats. And they’re not just ordinary cats. They’ve special set of skills. They’re like commando cats. And they live in barracks, a cat barracks… I don’t know what you call them. They live in the outskirts of the park, and at night when they close the park under the cover of darkness, these cats ascend into the park and they eat all the mice. Which is what I love about Disney because they’re so weird, and they think of everything.”

O’Brien and Gosling quipped about the theory for a few minutes, not missing that the Disney empire is primarily constructed around one famous mouse: Michael Theodore Mouse, aka Mickey. Then Gosling continued with the reason why he hates Disney:

“The thing is so messed up and why I hate them is that the whole empire of Disney is built on the back of one mouse. So, if you’re a mouse and you’re going to Disney Land you’re not leaving alive.”

But here’s the catch. Gosling was not kidding. Yes, you heard it right!

Disneyland Has More Than 200 Feral Cats Who Live in the Park

It’s no news that Disney Parks have hidden special features, such as the suite in Cinderella Castle, Walt Disney’s apartment, and Club 33. But Disneyland Resort has a unique “secret attraction” right in front of visitors 24/7.

To be more exact, there are around 200 of these “secret attractions” – the feral cats. Soon after Disneyland opens, there have been sightings of these cats since 1955. It has set up feeding stations across the property, ensuring all cats are spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The feral cat population received proper care, with Circle D Ranch Cast Members caring for them alongside Disneyland Cast Members. It seems like those 200 Bushy fur tails are well looked after at Disneyland.

The cats usually stay hidden during the day and become active at night. Yet, some cats don’t always follow this pattern. Park guests occasionally see them sleeping or wandering around the property, even during the day. Due to this, Disney advises guests not to approach or try to pet the cats. Disney better asks visitors to appreciate them from a distance to respect their space. However, taking pictures is not prohibited.
