Chris Hemsworth Vows Never to Work With Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino
Chris Hemsworth played the role of Thor, God of Thunder in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has worked in four installments of the franchise Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and the most recent is Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022.
The actor was asked in an interview with GQ about the criticisms of Marvel by filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. Extraction Star said,
“That’s super depressing when I hear that. There goes two of my heroes I won’t work with. I guess they’re not a fan of me.”
Hemsworth shared that he appreciated the movie made by Marvel as they served an essential purpose.
“I’m thankful that I have been a part of something that kept people in cinemas. Now, whether or not those films were to the detriment of other films, I don’t know. I don’t love when we start scrutinising each other when there’s so much fragility in the business and in this space of the arts as it is… I say that less to the directors who made those comments, who are all, by the way, still my heroes, and in a heartbeat I would leap to work with any of them. But I say it more to the broader opinion around that topic.”
He added,
“I don’t think any of us have the answer, but we’re trying.”
Hemsworth has become one of the highest-paid actors in the industry with the success of his Marvel films.
Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino attack Marvel movies
In a recent podcast with LA Times, Quentin Tarantino was asked if he would ever consider making a superhero movie franchise like Marvel. The director expressed his distaste saying that he disproves the Marvel Cinematic Universe and considers those filmmakers as hired hands. He said,
“You have to be a hired hand to do those things. I’m not a hired hand. I’m not looking for a job.”
The Wolf of Wall Street director Martin Scorsese also shared that watching Marvel movies is like going theme park, with no real emotions being evoked in the audience. The Avatar filmmaker James Cameron joined the brigade by calling the MCU characters immature and unimaginative.
Chris Hemsworth will appear in a spin-off and a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road named Furiosa. It will release in 2024.
