The lives of celebrities are not as easy as they appear to be, hidden behind their glitzy personas. An actor’s health can sometimes suffer as a result of putting them through arduous training in order to portray fierce action scenes. Bryce Dallas Howard also had to suffer a somewhat similar journey.
The 42-year-old American actress-director once admitted that she blacked out during the filming of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom because she was so “terrified“.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the 2018 installment of the iconic Jurassic Park series, featured a ton of heart-pounding action and thrilling stunts. However, Dallas Howard was completely terrified during a certain movie scene because it was too much for her.
The Jurassic World star recalled that during the filming of a stunt in one particular scene, director JA Bayona wanted her reaction to be as realistic as possible. And for this, he built a roller-coaster and had her go through several painful takes.
Bryce Dallas Howard on Film’s Most Dangerous Scene
High-budget action movies often feature stunts, but sometimes nothing beats a real candid shot of an actor or actress performing a stunt.
Moreover, it is no secret that Bryce Dallas Howard‘s character in the 2018 movie often engaged in perilous action scenes. However, something went wrong while they were filming one particular scene, which caused the actress to become utterly terrified. She actually fainted on set as a result of the impact of the action scene.
On the set of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director, J.A. Bayona asked Howard and her co-star, Justice Smith to participate in the filming of a scene, in which a gyrosphere tumbled off a cliff. The actress willingly filmed the stunt, but she did so after collapsing.
Since cliff diving in a gyrosphere was obviously too risky, a roller coaster was built on the lot so that Howard and Smith could experience the real sensation of falling. During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress discussed what transpired during the stunt and how she felt about the significant freefall:
“And J.A. Bayona decided to have a rollercoaster built– he built a rollercoaster, so that we could experience zero g, zero gravity. So we would actually fall faster than gravity or something. (I’m not sure, I’m not actually a scientist.) And I floated. We did so many takes. But let me just tell you something. I’m so afraid of rollercoasters. Like rollercoasters are the bane of my existence… I was so scared –this is true –I was so afraid that with each take [sic] my panic increased substantially.”
The Help actress further added:
“And by like, the fifth or sixth take, you know there’s like so much fear, and Justice told me and I remember it now! I was like [shrieking] and I blacked out!”
Bryce Dallas Howard Was ‘Terrified’
In an interview with The Wrap, Bryce Dallas Howard admitted she was too afraid to even try the rollercoaster stunt, but she still did it. She claimed that the zero gravity stuff did not get any simpler despite multiple attempts at being filmed, and at one point it even caused her to faint.
“You have the actors in the crystal ball sinking, running out of air. It’s very dangerous. I was a little scared shooting it.”
The Village actress also confessed that she also experienced claustrophobia while filming the scene despite months of physically taxing preparation, including scuba diving. She stated:
“Getting to train for that in advance minimized the challenge. So you never bump up against a place where you are actually experiencing real panic. If you panic underwater, it’s over, you’re done. I am making it sound like it’s the most hardcore thing in the world — like, it’s a movie.”
Howard, however, insisted that she was grateful for the chance to return to the Jurassic Park series and the entire action-movie experience. And it is safe to say that she gave an incredible performance that had spectators on the edge of their seats despite the fainting incident!
