Alba Baptista achieved her English language breakthrough with the 2020 Netflix series, Warrior Nun. The positively received series was unfortunately canceled after two seasons. After Warrior Nun, Baptista went on to star in the critically acclaimed film, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. The film, which is also her debut film in Hollywood, featured Lesley Manville, Isabelle Huppert, and Lucas Bravo.
Baptista became a searched name among movie lovers when her romantic relationship with Captain America actor Chris Evans came to light.
According to recent reports, the two actors secretly tied the knot over the past weekend in a private ceremony at their Boston home.
Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris Made Alba Baptista Bolder With Her Fashion Choices
In the movie, Alba Batista’s character Natasha is a Dior model who befriends the protagonist, Ada Harris, a widowed cleaning lady played by Lesley Manville. For playing a fashion model in the 1950s, Baptista dived into the history of Dior, the fashion choices at that time, and even the works of Albert Camus which were often discussed in the movie.
Calling herself an introvert, Baptista admitted to Glamour magazine in a 2022 interview that certain fashion choices made her feel anxious. However, she thanked her co-star, Manville, who encouraged the Fatima actress to believe in herself and helped her get through her insecurities during filming. The support even made her confident in her look for the film, which included some bold makeup choices. Baptista told Glamour:
“I fell in love with the look that my character had throughout the whole movie—a thick cat eyeliner. It had this beautiful wing, that came right from the corner of the eye. It was like this classic 1950s Audrey Hepburn style. I learned not to be shy with eyeliner. I was never brave enough to do a big cat eye—I would always just do a tiny little wing. But now whenever I have a dinner or something, I do it. It’s beautiful, feminine, and strong.”
Baptista also developed a deep appreciation for the dresses she wore in the movie. She revealed the dresses to be original 1950s pieces from Dior and considered them historical art pieces. According to the actress, the dresses did half the job of helping her look elegant, alleviating her fears about fashion and looks.
Alba Baptista Hinted Her Relationship With Chris Evans In The Interview
When asked about her dream role, Alba Baptista revealed that she would love to do something similar to Black Swan, which added a psychological element to a physically demanding role. However, the interesting part of the interview was when the Portuguese actress was asked about her activities during her time off the sets.
Baptista replied that she liked to engage in outdoor activities and go to the beach with “someone” she loves. She may have hinted at her relationship with Chris Evans here, as Evans later shared photos of the two of them spending time together on such trips when the relationship became public. She described such outings as the best day she could have, all while sharing her love for good food.
Fans can enjoy Alba Baptista’s bold fashion choices and incredible performance in Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, which is available for streaming on Prime Video.
