Ellen DeGeneres is an American comedian best known for hosting her talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Having had multiple celebrities over, DeGeneres has been somewhat of a controversial figure for her insensitive jokes that seem borderline offensive.
Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show has often been surrounded by controversies. From pranking actors to forcing them to face their phobias and traumas, fans called out the American comedian for her insensitive and rude nature when she lost it at a Chinese translator who allegedly took “too long” to translate!
When Ellen DeGeneres Lost It At a Chinese Translator
Often being called a bully, fans have called out the American comedian several times for her insensitive nature towards other people and even sometimes celebrities. A video resurfaced on the internet wherein the talk show host was being rude to a Chinese translator who was simply doing her job.
In a resurfaced video, DeGeneres invited musical sensation Feng E, who was just 12 years old at that time on her show. Knowing little to almost no English, Feng E brought along a translator to help him during the interview. When DeGeneres asked E some questions, the translator started translating and DeGeneres rudely interrupted her for allegedly taking too long.
“Now you’re playing electric guitar, right? What else do you want to learn?” asked the talk show host.
Feng E looked to his translator who started translating the question when DeGeneres rudely interrupted her by saying,
“Just one question. Just ‘What else does he want to learn. I don’t know what you’re telling him but just ask him what I am saying. See, that was that short”
After replying in Chinese, the translator stated that Feng E wants to learn “a finger-style guitar besides electric guitar”. When she asked the translator what a finger-style guitar was, she shrugged her shoulders stating she doesn’t know.
“Oh, acoustic. Well, don’t just…ask him. Don’t look at me and go [shurgs shoulders] ‘I don’t know’. We are not having a conversation. I am asking HIM what is a finger-style” said Ellen DeGeneres to the translator.
This wasn’t the first time people noticed her mean demeanor since Ellen DeGeneres would later go on to face several controversies and allegations which resulted in her closing down her talk show.
Ellen DeGeneres Faced a Lot of Allegations
It all started when the crew of The Ellen DeGeneres Show publicly spoke about the harsh treatment they suffered during the pandemic. After some talks and apologies, the issues started getting serious.
Ex-staffers of the show spoke about events of racism with other staffers alleging the top producers of the show of sexual misconduct. An investigation was carried out into the matter and finally, Ellen DeGeneres closed down her show with the last episode airing on 26th May 2022.
