Stanley Tucci has recalled trying to break up with his now-wife, who is the elder sister of Tucci’s The Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt. They married in 2012, three years after Tucci’s first wife, Kate Tucci died in 2009 from breast cancer.
The interview with Tucci for the BBC Radio 4 podcast Desert Island Discs offered a close-up look into their relationships, the impact of their connection on his life, and the joy they find in each other’s presence.
Stanley Tucci Tried to Break up with His Second Wife for This Reason
Stanley Tucci discussed how he almost broke up with Felicity Blunt, his present wife. After his first wife Kate Tucci departed in 2009, the Searching for Italy actor admitted on the Desert Island Discs that he was “afraid to get into a relationship.”
“I kept trying to break it off,” he said about the early days of his relationship with Felicity Blunt. When asked why, Tucci explained, “I’m 21 years older than she is and I didn’t want to feel old for the rest of my life! But I knew that this was an incredibly special person.”
Despite his initial doubts, the pair eventually got married in 2012 and share two kids together: son Matteo and daughter Emilia. Tucci is also dad to twins Isabel and Nicolo and daughter Camilla from his first marriage.
Stanley Tucci Praised Felicity Blunt for Supporting Him
Tucci lauded Felicity Blunt’s ability to be a pillar of support in his life and the lives of his children throughout the entire discussion.
“Felicity has been so incredible, taking on a widower and three children whose mother died. That’s a huge thing at a very young age too,” he said.
“If anybody made things better for all of us, it’s her. She’s the one.”
Tucci and Felicity Blunt, the sister of Emily Blunt, first met at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada in 2006. “She and Kate talked a lot that night,” Tucci recalled.
He added that Blunt handled the family with ease and gave love and support to his children from his first marriage.
He highlighted Felicity Blunt’s exceptional talents as a woman and the joy she has brought into their life, praising her ability to make him feel young and alive.
