Tom Cruise is back in the impossible game and the challenge is only getting difficult for Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. This film brings out a new antagonist to face off against our action star but his adventure is joined by Hayley Atwell’s Grace who is the new addition in the franchise.

Hayley Atwell Found Train Sequence as The ‘Scariest’ Stunt Scene
Hayley Atwell in a new interview with Variety threw light on the scariest scene she filmed in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Her character, Grace and Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is seen climbing several different train cars, which she mentioned was the difficult stunt sequence she filmed.
As each train car had to be built and shoot separately, the entire stunt took almost a year to shoot which meant they had to refilm the scenes to get the right sequence.
“I’d see on the call sheet a year later that we’re going to spend the afternoon on that vertical train carriage again and be like, ‘Oh God, no, I’m so tired from that.’”
She continued,
“So when you see Ethan going, ‘Do you trust me?’ and Grace just shakes her head — that’s me going, ‘Not anymore. I don’t want to do this anymore. It’s really scary.’ They loved it. They were like, ‘That’s going in.’”
While she was scared of those sequences, she told how Cruise shared that fear was “ok” for him even though he feel nervous like others.
Hayley Atwell Underwent Training for 5 Months to Work With Tom Cruise
Atwell further mentioned in the interview about undergoing intensive training for five months to prepare herself to handle the physical tasks which are crucial in the franchise.
She explored different disciplines of mixed martial arts and learned some hand tricks and pickpocketing which was not the end. She also learned to drift in a race car and even practiced with two knives as props to prepare some trapping sequences. It turned out to be a piece of cake for her as her movements drastically sped up when prop weapons were added to her training.
She credited her fast movements to be the product of her years of theater.
“I think it comes from theater – I love working with props on a stage because you can convey so much and they’re an extension of your character.”
She continued how props can enhance her overall performance by sharing,
“The way that you stir a cup of tea can tell how much you hate someone you’re talking to, or that you’re trying to seduce them.”
She will reprise her role in its sequel, Dead Reckoning Part Two which is set to release on June 28, 2024. Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is running in theatres.
