Jensen Ackles Calls The Boys a Satire to Superhero Genre

The popularity of the superhero genre has gained a massive following over the past few years. And with the studios like Marvel and DC engaging in production constantly, fans have no lack of content. However, unlike the popular superhero image, The Boys represents a counterpoint to the concept.

Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book of the same name, the show follows a group, The Boys, as they go against the superheroes abusing their powers. Talking about the same during a recent interview with Discussing Films, Jensen Ackles shared that the Amazon show is an “incredible satire” on the popular superhero world.

“To have such a flip side of the superhero world be so popular right now,” he said. He further shared that he loved the concept of the show and the narrative it presents not only on the superhero culture but also “pop culture all over the place.”

“You could probably argue that there are other things trying to be like that right now too, but I don’t think there is anything that hits the mark quite like The Boys has.”
